I wish they had presented the story in an objective manner, without needing some politically correct "victim" at the center of it.
.
The real story, if you read it carefully, is that there is a "law" in Chile that people can't go into a store without some sort of permission slip from a government website. This applies to everyone, not just to this old lady, so she is not the victim here, but the entire population of Chile.
.
That being said, I'm really surprised this situation isn't more well known. I guess the things that go on in a third-world country that speaks a different language from us here will not be well known, but man, this is seriously crazy. Even with the government permission slip, you can still only leave your house twice a week to buy food??!

Use Google translate (https://www.chileatiende.gob.cl/fichas/77485-permiso-temporal-para-salir-en-cuarentena), which is usually pretty good for Spanish, to see the original post from the government of Chile itself.

The passport is only for parts heavily affected in quarantine. It's not the entire country. There are 3 levels: Level 1, 2 or 3. Her town of Maipú, just outside of the Capital, just happens to be in one of the restrictive levels. Just providing some insight as someone who speaks the language.

This is terrible to prevent people from getting food, if they don’t have proof of vaccination.

The woman lived to be hundred and had to be persecuted in her own town.
