The Italian a recent homily of Francis says: "La Madonna era umana! E forse aveva la voglia di dire: ‘Bugie! Sono stata ingannata!’"
("The Madonna was human! And perhaps she had the desire to say: 'Lies! I was tricked [by saying fiat to God]!'")

Our Lady—who is human yet full of grace, being herself the only Immaculate Conception—can never ever have a desire to blaspheme God, calling Him a liar and trickster.

  • Indeed.  Even Christ was tempted.
    Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

    I liked this post, because one doesn't shoot the messenger. If Casual Frank said this, thanks for relaying it to us.

    Just adds more ammo.

    Instead of "Get away from me Satan !" Maybe Jesus really had the desire to say, "Show me the money !!!"

    Good questions!!!   Excellent!!!

    Quote from: TKGS
    Quote from: Judas Machabeus
    Was Our Lady ever tempted?

    Our Lady lived here on earth amongst many fallen people.  One cannot live on the earth without any temptation.

    Quote from: Sigismund
    Indeed. Even Christ was tempted.

    There is no record, Scripture or dogmatic pronouncement that teaches that Our Lady was ever tempted.  But at the same time it is not unreasonable to suppose that she may have been.  The difference is, with her, she would never have given any temptation to sin the first thought of consideration.

    As Fr. Gregorius Hesse was wont to say, if our Blessed Mother had been walking through the Garden of Eden as Eve had been, and if she had heard the voice of the devil, the serpent, in the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil speaking to her, she would never have paused to listen.  She would have kept on walking and the serpent would have been left all alone with no one to talk to.  But in the very most extreme case, Our Lady would have turned to the serpent and said, "Go back to hell where you came from," and END THE DIALOGUE.

    But for anyone to venture to suppose that the Blessed Virgin Mary would have ventured to speculate that she had been "tricked" is really beyond the pale.  She was overshadowed by the Holy Ghost, receiving in her the effect of Confirmation, and the fullness of grace of the sacrament, in anticipation of its being instituted by Christ, in the same way that she received the SINGULAR privilege of the Immaculate Conception in anticipation of the atonement of Our Lord on the Cross and His subsequent institution of the sacrament of Baptism.  There is no way she could have suspected anything untoward was going on.

    In a word, she was UNDER the PROTECTION of the Holy Ghost, in the same way that the pope is when making an ex cathedra definition, for she enjoyed a personal infallibility, just as the Apostles received at the Descent of the Holy Ghost in the upper room on the day of Pentecost.  Only for Her, that would be her SECOND TIME.  No one else in the history of the world has been privileged with receiving the Holy Ghost on two separate occasions and according to the will of God.

    Compare her conversation with the Angel Gabriel when he answered her question, "How can this be for I know not man?" with a calm explanation of God's will in her regard -- compare that to the conversation of Zachary with the angel regarding his wife becoming pregnant in her advanced age (Elizabeth was perhaps over 90 years old).  In the former case, there was no adverse consequence, but in the latter case, there was the sign of Zachary being struck MUTE until St. John the Baptist was born and Zachary correctly named him as he had been instructed to do, and so his assent to the will of God was his reprieve, the moment of the release of his tongue, which the witnesses saw happen and thus knew that a very great sign had occurred.

    Why wasn't Our Lady struck mute by her asking of a question?  We cannot literally tell by the words in St. Luke all of their own, but the Church teaches that the Angel Gabriel could see what was in her Immaculate Heart, and he saw nothing but purity and true faith without compromise, a thing of incomparable beauty, a thing which caused him to cast his eyes down in the glory of this sight, albeit along with the natural question of what was going to happen to her to cause her to be with child. This is the "Mystery of the Annunciation," and it is not the 'mundane Q&A of Gabriel and Mary', as faithless protestants would lead you to believe in their heresy.  It was not improper for her to say that, for it was to touch her own person and to do something that had not ever been heard of in the history of the world, not to mention that it would fulfill the prophesy of Isaias vii. 14, "For behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and his name shall be called Emmanuel."  There is no doubt that Blessed Mary was fully aware of that prophesy and its implications, as she had already spent many years in the study of Sacred Scripture for she had been raised in the Temple with daily lessons from her childhood.

    On the other hand, Zachary, who was a priest in the temple of high rank, for he was in the Holy of Holies when he was struck dumb, had doubt in his heart, which the angel could see, and his question was one of cynicism and incredulity, that is, he harbored a lack of faith.  This fault, while quite reasonable and natural, was a thing of IMPERFECTION and we might say, a venial sin, certainly not mortal, but is was unacceptable to the angel, and the consequence was IMMEDIATE and ENDURING, until his son would be born.

  • Surely we focus on the Holy Mother, and maybe especially as parents but even as children, understand the agony she must have felt deep down. As a child, I remember thinking the Our Lord must have hurt worse seeing His mother, the women, and John, as He suffered His Passion. And surely the Blessed Virgin, while having support beyond which we can imagine, had sorrow. ("Sorrowful Mysteries?")

    But Mom (+God let light eternal shine upon her, and may she rest in peace) reminded me as a child that the Holy Mother "kept these things". The Holy Mother had experienced MANY a miraculous thing (of course), and even a clear-set prophecy (Nunc Dimitis from Simeon) spelling out the two-fold nature of this most-miraculous blessing:

    Quote from: Simeon, in the Nunc Dimitis,
    Behold this child is set for the fall, and for the resurrection of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted; And thy own soul a sword shall pierce, that, out of many hearts, thoughts may be revealed.

    ^ and I'm sure even that "warning" (prophecy), watching the Passion of her Holy Son would not be easy, but she was PREPARED, and FILLED WITH GRACE. She would not have felt, in any universe, deceived. Oh, there's a deceiver involved alright, but it wasn't the Holy Family or God. My eyes bulged when I read Bergoglio's ..."thoughts" that the Holy Mother would have felt anger and deception on the order of what Bergoglio said.

    :dwarf:

    As I posted on Midrathdylan's blog, guess we just add this to Bergoglio's long-growing list of anathematizations —for the month. Last week it was how Our Lord was "pretending" about being angry; this week, it's how the Holy Mother might have experienced things of which Bergoglio and his crew can't possibly imagine, but need to talk about (for no reason whatsover — really, it added nothing to his empty words).

    But Trent's got a little something to say about this one:

    Quote from: TRENT
    If anyone shall say that a man once justified can sin no more, nor lose grace, and that therefore he who falls and sins was never truly justified; or, on the contrary, that throughout his whole life he can avoid all sins even venial sins, except by a special privilege of God, as the Church holds in regard to the Blessed Virgin: let him be anathema."

    Should we call him Bergogio, or Anathema? Why is this guy so concerned about tarnishing the HOLY MOTHER?! I guess the moment he bounced a volleyball on an altar as an "offering" to the Holy Mother at WYD (maybe he thought she'd SMACK IT BACK DOWN so he could claim a "miracle"?!  :mad: ), it was clear that this is not a man who respects the Mother of God.

    His supporters, who are actually Catholic, need to introduce this guy to the "sorrowful mysteries," — maybe he needs a rosary to begin with — so he might stop playing Walking Anathema. (Yep: I'm looking at whoever wrote his name down in that conclave. There's a point beyond which you have to assume Berg's either way worse than an anti-pope, or mentally deranged. It falls on Dolan and the "cardinals." They'll get squished for this one. Not a prayer; just an observation.)

    Yes, Geremia, Our Blessed Lady could never have done anything like this.

    To even begin to think that she could have had such a thought borders on paganism.  This is so close to the edge, it ISN'T FUNNY.

    We are being persecuted, Geremia, and you have passed the test.  Your Catholic faith shines through like sunlight through a tall carved crystal vase, filled with sparkling water and a dozen long-stemmed red Castilian roses.

    Thank you, and thank you for the alert.

    We are called to a higher level of discernment.

    This is a time of chastisement.
    Our faith is being tested.
    Never before in the history of the world
    has the Church been put to the test like this.

    We are facing the moments that preceded the Crucifixion.

    When the Apostles were with Our Lord and the crowd pressed upon him to kill him and he made himself invisible and walked out from among them it was a time of great test like this is.

    The difference is, they had his leadership in the flesh, and we have to rely on our understanding of the Faith by our knowledge of history and the dogmas defined by the Church.  Every knowledgeable Catholic today has what he needs to make this discernment.  And we need each other to remind ourselves of this.  That's what CI is for.

    What is happening now is we have a pope whose words and deeds cease not to strike doubt and ghastly questions into our hearts and into our minds.

    This is a time of trial, and we are being prepared by this time for the events that are soon to come.

    Do not pass up the chance to resort to prayer and to prepare yourselves.

    As +W says, "Fortify your homes."

    Yes, Our Lady didn't doubt it, nor was asking this out of curiosity; she just wanted to know the means, which obedience demands.

    Her question also affirms she took a vow of perpetual virginity, since if she didn't, obviously she would know the means.

    She never had it in her to say such a thing -- is right.

    And no pope in the history of the Church would have gotten away with this.

    He has chosen the name Francis after the Seraphic Father, the first stigmatist in the history of Holy Mother Church, a man who was called "father" even though he wasn't a priest!  But this pope has ALMOST nothing in common with St. Francis.  They're both men, after all!

    They can both talk.

    But imagine Pope Francis saying ANY ONE of these things, like this:

    Words of St. Francis of Assisi:

    “O Divine Master, grant that I may not seek to be consoled, as to console. To be understood, as to understand. To be loved, as to love. For it is in giving that we receive. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned. It is in dying that we are born to eternal life.”
    ―

    “Preach the Gospel at all times, and when necessary, use words.”
    ―

    “The deeds you do may be the only sermon some persons will hear today.”
    ―

    “Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”
    ―

    “We have been called to heal wounds, to unite what has fallen apart, and to bring home those who have lost their way.”
    ―

    “While you are proclaiming peace with your lips, be careful to have it even more fully in your heart.”
    ―

    “I have been all things unholy. If God can work through me, He can work through anyone.”
    ―

    “My dear and beloved Brother, the treasure of blessed poverty is so very precious and divine that we are not worthy to possess it in our vile bodies. For poverty is that heavenly virtue by which all earthy and transitory things are trodden under foot, and by which every obstacle is removed from the soul so that it may freely enter into union with the eternal Lord God. It is also the virtue which makes the soul, while still here on earth, converse with the angels in Heaven. It is she who accompanied Christ on the Cross, was buried with Christ in the Tomb, and with Christ was raised and ascended into Heaven, for even in this life she gives to souls who love her the ability to fly to Heaven, and she alone guards the armor of true humility and charity.”
    ―

    “Every day He humbles Himself just as He did when from from His heavenly throne into the Virgin's womb; every day He comes to us and lets us see Him in lowliness, when He descends from the bosom of the Father into the hands of the priest at the altar.”

    “Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love.”
    ―

    “Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take with you nothing that you have received ― only what you have given.”
    ―

    “Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”
    ―

    “We have been called to heal wounds, to unite what has fallen apart, and to bring home those who have lost their way.”
    ―

    “Blessed is the servant who loves his brother as much when he is sick and useless as when he is well and can be of service to him. And blessed is he who loves his brother as well when he is afar off as when he is by his side, and who would say nothing behind his back he might not, in love, say before his face.”
    ―

    “Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
    where there is hatred, let me sow love;
    when there is injury, pardon;
    where there is doubt, faith;
    where there is despair, hope;
    where there is darkness, light;
    and where there is sadness, joy.
    Grant that I may not so much seek
    to be consoled as to console;
    to be understood, as to understand,
    to be loved as to love;
    for it is in giving that we receive,
    it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
    and it is in dying [to ourselves] that we are born to eternal life.”
    ―

    “We should seek not so much to pray but to become prayer.”
    ―

    “All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle.”
    ―

    “A single sunbeam is enough to drive away many shadows.”
    ―

    In the Mystical City of God, which is private revelation, of course, it mentions that Our Lady did get tempted, but would never have said anything remotely like what Casual Frank has said.

    She would LAUGH at him, and drive him berserk, because there was nothing he could do to waiver her.

    Here's just one excerpt:

    Quote from:  Mystical City of God
    Satan was sending legions of devils to tempt Our Lady while she was on earth. (The Incarnation, Book I< Chapter XXVII #353) Nevertheless, the demons stubbornly persisted and proceeded with the seventh temptation, which was that of idleness. They sought to cause in Her a corporeal indisposition, or a feeling of weakness and fatigue, accompanied by dejection of spirit. This is a trick of satan little known and under its cover the sin of laziness causes much ruin among souls and prevents much progress in virtue. They suggested moreover that She postpone some exercises on account of weariness in order to be abe to perform them so much the better after rested. This too is one among many other tricks of satan, as we do not often discover it or know what to do against it. They also sought maliciously to hinder the most holy Lady in some exercises by means of human creatures, whom they sent to visit her at unseasonable times, trying to impede the performance of some of her holy exercises and occupations at the time and hour set for them. But all these delusions were detected by the most prudent and alert Princess. She evaded them by her wise precautions, without permitting the enemy to succeed in any of them and acting in all things up to the standard of the most exquisite perfection. Her enemies were obliged to desist, hopelessly foiled and repulsed. Lucifer was full of rage against his companions and against himself. But in their fury and insane pride, they resolved to make one more general assult upon Mary, as I will relate in the following chapter.
    Matthew 5:37
