note that most are the baby boomer generation or a few younger dregging looking ones.

"They also say women played a much more prominent role in the early Church than is acknowledged by Rome. "

really?  like we do not acknowledge Mary, Mary and Martha, Ceclia, Agnes, Anastasia,,,etc......

are we not pillaged by Prots for our "mary worship" and "saint worship"?

"Vatican, July 8 - The Vatican is set to crack down harder on the ordination of women priests,

There's taking a stand.  How about this:  "Vatican set to crack down on serial killing -- Serial killing cannot be condoned by the Catholic Church, says CDF head Cardinal Levada."

It is pure Pavlov, statements like this.  With a minimum of effort, traditionalism is frozen and those who could and should take action against Rome kept sweet.

Imagine the Vatican as a dog owner who has to throw bones to various portions of his flock, colorful Milk-Bones of ecumenism and Americanism for the docile poodles ( the Novus Ordo ) but more classic, traditional rawhide bones for the growling, surly cocker spaniels ( SSPX trads ).

Traditionalists begin to grumble, maybe they wake up thinking "What if the sedes are right after all?"; the Vatican says something like "Abortion is bad" or "We will not ordain women priests!"; some mild applause for Benedict ensues, along with the cautiously expressed hope that the "Church" is beginning to take a turn for the better; rinse and repeat for fifty years.

How has humanity become this inert?

Note in article, they leave out abortion by and large-as if child abuse-terrible as it is-is worse than murder, which is really, the worse abuse

to your question "What if the sedes are right after all?";

sorry, not at that point yet. In future, the antipopes will be clearer and would liekly go that way, which would be right...

Right now, would rather be right on accepting a false peope-as to me it is far from clear and concise-then wrong and rejecting a man that may very well be a Pope
Sorry Jesus fror rejecting your Pope, I was busy playing "whose the Pope".

for me, being wrong and accepting b16 if he is indeed false is far milder punishment then rejecting someone Christ chose, a sort of Korah for me.....

I can respect your view and those of others here...but at this time, cannot accept it myself....

also, have a lot of latitude for SSPX, again, if you were alive in the early-mid 70's, you would understand better. Also, as you note, you are a fairly new Catholic, so forgive me if I say that a lot of us have lived through more and have our own predjudices in favor of one else really was visible through the yrs to resist mdoernism and save the TLM and practices like SSPX...whatever their faults and short comings...
may you ahve a safe and  :dancing-banana: :sign-party-time: :wine-drinking: weekend

It began long before you were born.

Are you taking off already for the weekend,  Belloc?  I hope it's not too sweltering where you are.  If it is, offer it up for souls in need.

Hasta la vista!

here and there still, but we really got hit with a lot of cases and paperwork-but that does not matter to the higher ups, they still operate as if it is mid-1980's, not many more people, but a lot more casework.....

yes, sweltering, likely the Church will be cold..

Right, Belloc, it hot all over right now, but have a great week end anyway.
We will miss you!

Raoul, I remember talking to one of the nuns at the Mount, she was wavering if she should walk or not.  I told her then, doesn't it seem funny to you that when the "pope" says something Catholic, it makes the World News.

She didn't walk, and I like to think I had a little to do with that, because she said, your right!  Although I know it was really Gods grace working within her.

It is like all these bold statements that trickle out of New Rome these days. But by now we have acquired that gut feeling that a thing has not happened until it happens. Until it happens we live in fear that it will happen. When it does happen we say that things were moving in that direction.   This is now the traditionalist's way of thinking in both religion and politics. I call it resigned inevitability. No better shown up in Bp. Williamson's: the Church is finished!

Cracking down on something means a desire for something exists but at that instant it is not convenient. We almost automatically hear the words "for now" in any discouragement. No doubt the ordination of women will follow swiftly on the heels of a Theology of Women written by a crowd-pleasing successor of Ratzinger. Our expectations have certainly moved into a post-Church mode where the once unthinkable is going to be de rigueur. And it is soon going to be impossible to know what else to crack down on because everything will be permitted ..... except belief in the faith, of course.

Well, the Vatican isn't doing a good job so far. Heck, my local bishop supports female priests. It just shows what kind of a modernist he is.
