  • I think that Pope Pius XII's exhortation to discuss both arguments for and against it has not been taken into consideration and today you have a Pontifical Academy of Science with no Creationists or people who are critical of the theory among it's members and also conferences from which Creationists and Intelligent Design proponents are excluded.

It makes things looks as if The Church endorses the theory and see it as a proven fact.

Or maybe the bishops are too scared of "another Galileo embarrassment" (as some say) and thus choose to just bow to science due to fear?

It is interesting that there seems to be a correlation between The Church's stance towards evolution before and after Vatican II. Before the council, The Church was rather defensive about it, after the council, specially with John Paul II, we see the theory welcomed with mostly open arms.

    What will eventually happen?

  • Of course the Church will condemn the theory of evolution. We just have to wait until the Church recovers from her little crisis, however long it takes. As for "these guys," no, I don't think they will condemn evolution. They only seem interested in condemning the teachings of the Church, not the errors that oppose Her.

"Little crisis" is a huge under-statement.

I agree with you though, it won't get better until the crisis in the Church ends.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

  • The thing with evoluiton is that, at least it is what I think, if we are to accept it as true, then very much 1800 years of Church tradition would have to be wrong when it comes to the understanding of Genesis, in particular the creation of Adam fron the slime of the earth and of Eve from his side. Any kind of "reconciliation" with evolution would entail that such statements are false at face value and that The Church along with her Doctors didn't have a clue on how to understand the Scriptures.

I also don't see how evolution either gives glory to God, helps demonstrate the truth of the Scriptures or leads people to The Church. It seems to be doing the exact opposite and atheist think of it as a weapon to attack the faith.

  • In college I notice that the singlemost thing that has destroyed people's faith is evolution.

Well, when you teach people that the creation account of Genesis is only a myth because we know from science that the universe is billions of years old and that evolution is a proven fact, then what happens is a subordination of the faith to science and as a result their faith in the inspiration and inerracy of the Scriptures is seriously undermined. With the foundation shaken, the whole edifice of the faith totters.

I think the Vatican has handled the issue of evolution rahter poorly. Instead of warning against it and adopting a more cautionous approach to it, they have very much welcomed Darwin with open arms.
