I’ve never heard of any Catholics converting to Islam.  I’ve heard of the opposite, Muslims converting to some form of Christianity, not Catholic.  I’m sure one can find converts to and from all sorts of religions.

It's super watered-down Nestorianism with limited obligations. In a sense it was the prototype for Protestantism. There's an appeal because it has a history to make it "traditional" but none of the moral expectations of Catholicism (which is 100% why people reject the true Faith). I was oddly tempted toward it way back in college (around 2011) even though I was an atheist. There's something diabolic behind its pull. Theres a tradservative commentator who warned not even to read the Quran without a strong Catholic faith because of its diabolic origin.

Edit: Tim Flanders, that was who said it

That is what I felt when I was investigating.

Does this happen often? I've seen more Catholics convert to Orthodoxy than anything else, not personally familiar with any instances of Catholics becoming Mohammedan.

That said, I could speculate a few reasons ... Islam is a very sensual religion that appeals to many base desires especially for men. I think that some people also see that Islam is relatively "robust" and "militant" compared to the flaccid and pacific "mainstream" "Christian" sects ... so for one who is struggling with the faith they might be attracted to a religion where people actually have convicted even if they are flawed.

I have heard of a few instances of Christian women converting to Islam now that I think of it. That is even more perplexing to me, why would a woman choose to reduce herself to what is essentially chattel slavery? Again I think it goes back to being attracted to a religion where people actually have some firm convictions and maybe becoming a slave is an overreaction to the desire to having a strong man who will lead versus the largely emasculated, follower males of the modern West?
I think you are on to something...
Especially considering Muhammad had 12 wives and one was only lucky 6 years old.  Pretty base desires.

But i would be hard-pressed to believe women would prefer an emasculated follower modern western man to a polygamist pedophile "prophet".

Several years ago, a woman attending the traditional Catholic mass turned to Islam.  She was wacky to start.

Partly due to the influence of pseudo-traditionalism of Guenon, Evola and other Gnostics. Guenon tried to infiltrate French traditionalism without success, so he went to Egypt and pretended to convert to islam. And promoved it. These people are dedicated to infiltrating traditionalist communities and redirecting them to apostasy. They promote Catholicism one day, Islam the next, and Hinduism the next. Because they are actually Gnostics who believe that all religions are the same.

Much of the Sufi Islam seen in the West is promoted by these people.
