Despair in Hell for all eternity if they die in this condition?

Do most people want to go to hell?

I have never been able to understand why so many people are unwilling to submit to Gods demands when the price for not doing so is so high.

  • They ...

    1) don't really believe in it

    or

    2) don't think that they could ever go there short of becoming a serial murderer

    or

    3) don't think about it at all and prefer not to while they live in sin

  • It is our intention here to review the Catholic doctrine concerning
God and salvation. The following is a principle of the first magnitude:
Men do not go to Heaven because they are not bad enough to
deserve Hell; they go to Hell because they are not good enough to go
to Heaven. They do not go to Hell because they prefer Hell to
Heaven; they go to Hell because they prefer life on earth to a life
worthy of Heaven. And their life on earth consists of suiting
themselves as much as they can. Heaven is only for those who have
abandoned their will completely for the service of God. "He that
loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world,
keepeth it unto life eternal." (Jn. 12:25).

Contrary to the wishful thinking of our day, most people do not
go to Heaven; most people go to Hell. Only a very small percentage
are saved. We are not making this up. Our Lord Himself said this very
thing: "Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad
is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in
thereat. How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leadeth to
life: and few there are that find it!" (Mt. 7:13, 14). - Fr. Wathen
"But Peter and the apostles answering, said: We ought to obey God, rather than men." - Acts 5:29

The Highest Principle in the Church: "We are first of all under obedience to God, and only then under obedience to man" - Fr. Hesse

  • God has purposely blinded some for the good of the Elect. Nobody knows why God draws some souls to Himself while permitting others to remain in ignorance. Most agree that God's predestination and predilection is not based upon any merit, but God's pre-ordainment at the beginning of the world. As St.Thomas says, the reprobate "seem to be preordained by God for the good of the elect, in whose regard all things work together unto good"

When Jesus was rebuking the Jєωs, He explains: "No man can come to me, except the Father, who hath sent me, draw him; and I will raise him up in the last day”. This verse reveals that if one is to come to Christ, he must be drawn by the Father's efficacious grace; he cannot come to Christ by his own natural powers. Because obtaining eternal life with Christ surpasses our natural abilities, man must be directed (or predestined) to that end by God. From this follows that many are blinded and hardened by God, those whom Christ says that "have ears but hear not, that have eyes but see not".
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.
