Last night I was driving home from the gym (a real den of iniquity – where none of the ladies grasp the concept of modesty, but on a higher moral plane than your average novus ordo church) and I tuned in to the Catholic channel on Sirius/FM. The host of a show was having his weekly interview with Cardinal Dolan. Being the beginning of September, there are some major Jєωιѕн holidays this month and Cardinal Dolan was talking about how great these holidays are and that we should see the beauty and God’s truth in these other religions. He also added that we face the same opponent. This opponent was Satan. Now, we all know that even devout Orthodox Jєωs are pro-abortion so they would have to be counted among the “opponent” and not as some side by side compadre fighting the good fight. The majority of protestants are of the opinion that birth control is perfectly acceptable but the more fundamentalist protestants are not in favor of abortion. The mainstream protestant churches most certainly are so wouldn’t they be on our opponent’s side in the grand struggle? Cardinal Dolan should not be dismissed as s dummy but should be seen as someone who doesn’t actually care about these issues because he thinks all roads lead to Heaven and it’s what social justice work we do in the here and now that really counts. That’s an assessment of mine.
Do we face the same opponents? Because I see Jєωιѕн souls as souls needing to embrace Our Lord or their very salvation is in jeopardy. So, how can we be facing the same opponent?
When speaking of other religions and their preening beauty, Cardinal Dolan was very vague, relying on humor and what passes for common sense statements from the world of indifferentism but when it came to inside baseball at the Vatican and the replacement of Cardinal Bertone, he became very specific and made a point of highlighting how important the role of Secretary of State in the Vatican is and how it differs from our concept of a political secretary of state. He became very descriptive and specific and showed that he isn’t a blithering ding dong – at least when speaking of topics that are germaine to his own self-aggrandizement.
So, is it possible that Cardinal Dolan really could give a rip about religious truth and that he is just “sucking up to power” in a vulgar way of phrasing it?
What do we hope to gain from pretending to be “brothers” with religions who alter the edicts of Christ and those religions who reject Christ?
