    Seriously, though, I've never been able to get my head around that whole strange episode. I think most serious writers I've read believe that the charges against the Templars were true, and that the pope and the king of France acted not only correctly, but were forced to act in taking them down before they became a threat to Christendom. I think Hilaire Belloc said something along those lines.
