Seems like in these terrible times, the good Bishop could find thousands of better topics to talk about during Lent!

On the contrary -- it was a very good article.

He hits to the very heart of what is wrong with the world today.

  • This has to be taken in context. This is just a writing from the Bishop's blog "Dinoscopus". His blog posts are always just on his own musings, and shouldn't be taken as sermon material. At least that's what I think. I think that it would be highly inappropriate to speak about this topic in the pulpit, but I could be wrong.

  • Why would it be inappropriate when he is absolutely correct? It is a severe problem that needs to be corrected.

  • That is good. Of course its appropriate, no matter WHAT time it is of the year. We are born into a world that is defying God more and more all the time. The counsel of this servant of God is truly a topic men and women alike need to hear about more and realize in themselves.

I wasn't disagreeing that he is right. I just said that I think it wouldn't be an appropriate topic to preach on during Mass, seeing as there are plenty of topics that could be more fruitful, such as the Four Last Things.

  • It's important for priests not to overstep their authority in sermons.

When a sermon appears to be the imposition of a personal opinion rather than a teaching of the truths of the Faith, it can cause a lot of discontent.

A good way to approach controversial topics is to discuss the dangers of something rather than engaging in outright condemnation (when the topic of condemnation is not explicitly covered by Church teachings).

Probably the biggest problem Traditional Catholics have is the problem of youth.  There should be more criticism of the public schools and universities, less criticism of young people who wish they could marry but can't afford to.  It seems to me there are plenty of parents out there who don't mind if their daughters past 21 are in a sinful courtship, but are outraged at the innocent conduct of their younger daughters.  There does seem to be some pharisaical encouragement of parental despotism.  In other words, the rights of young people who've passed 18 and are technically in majority are concealed from them.  Daughters are raised to believe they must have parental consent to marry, etc.  This pharisaical excess will either lead to rebellion or severe discouragement.

  • It sounds like you have some personal experience there --

I think I understand what you're getting at, but I don't have a lot of personal examples of proper courting of youngsters being looked down upon.

    :incense:
Priests are the authority in the church, and Bishops the supreme authority.
Many of us thought Bishop Williamson would be the "white knight"  for trads, and stand up and speak courageously against the  heretical Vatican 11 council, and other matters of grave importance.
Hes  turned out to be a "muser"  speaking of irrevelevent subjects.
God knows we need a very strong leader!

He is under obedience to his Superior General, and he is not supposed to be issuing heavy statements at this time.  There was some trouble last year with his opinion of history, and so now he is musing.

I agree, Traditional Catholics, save for converts who convert while in high school or college, overall should not attend public or secular schools (Syllabus #47-48). I'm not saying that they should attended modern Catholic schools or colleges which are de facto secular, but that any education is for heaven not hell.

Older Traditional Catholics should not critique younger people who are not yet married/can't afford it and living free of serious sin, but then be blind to those who are as long as they're on the path to "success." It is a very secular Protestant mindset i.e. be a sinner and sin boldly, but just make sure you're working towards that nice paycheck.
    Pray for me, always.
