I found this video today, and it makes me look at benedict xvi and his retirement a little differently. I think that it is probable that he just genuinely threw in the towel.

At 48-49 seconds you will see one bishop fake his gesture/pull away/then shake his hand, and benedict slaps his hand away.

Do you think that the video creators are correct in that it is out of enmity, or do you think it is just a german joke on the pope? Some bishops looked like they don't like benedict xvi, but others were laughing. It is none the less strange.

I don't think they were joking. They were obviously very intent on disrespect. They acted like he was diseased and like they were afraid to touch him. This video made me feel bad for him.

I love the narrator's repeated references to the "apostatical hierarchy" and her phrase "haeresis maxima".

That's considered at the least impolite, at least here in the West.

Wow is right. There is something very striking about this. I have seen so many jaw dropping things from the NO, but this is in a category of its own.

Its interesting to note that they all shake the hand of the guy in the suit and bow to him and then only six shake the hand of the "pope"
