  • VATICAN CITY – Pope Benedict XVI's comments about condom use being a lesser evil than transmitting HIV also apply to women, the Vatican said Tuesday.

Benedict said in a book released Tuesday that condom use by people such as male prostitutes was a lesser evil since it indicated they were taking a step toward a more moral and responsible sɛҳuąƖity by aiming to protect their partner from a deadly infection.

His comments implied that he was referring primarily to ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ sex, when condoms aren't being used as a form of contraception, which the Vatican opposes.

Questions arose immediately, however, about the pope's intent because the Italian translation of the book used the feminine for prostitute, whereas the original German used the masculine.

The Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, told reporters Tuesday that he asked the pope whether he intended his comments to only apply to male prostitutes. Benedict replied that it really didn't matter, that the important thing was the person in question took into consideration the life of the other, Lombardi said.

"I personally asked the pope if there was a serious, important problem in the choice of the masculine over the feminine," Lombardi said. "He told me no. The problem is this ... It's the first step of taking responsibility, of taking into consideration the risk of the life of another with whom you have a relationship."

"This is if you're a woman, a man, or a transsɛҳuąƖ. We're at the same point," Lombardi said.

The pope is not justifying or condoning gαy sex or heterosɛҳuąƖ sex outside of a marriage. Elsewhere in the book he reaffirms the Vatican opposition to ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ acts and artificial contraception and reaffirms the inviolability of marriage between man and woman.

But by broadening the condom comments to also apply to women, the pope is saying that condom use in heterosɛҳuąƖ relations is the lesser evil than passing HIV onto a partner.

While that concept has long been a tenet of moral theology, the pope's book "Light of the World" — a series of interviews with a German journalist — was the first time a pope had ever publicly applied the theory to the scenario of condom use as a way to fight HIV transmission.

The pope's comments have generated heated debate, mostly positive in places like Africa which has been devastated by AIDS and where the church has been criticized for its opposition to condom use.

    Please pray for my soul.

The whole "gαy prostitute" idea of saying it only covers sodomy was just a smokescreen.

  • Bodies are now more important that the immortal life of the soul.  You see, even Benedict believes more in this life than in the next.  Hope he is reading our survival threads for more helpful hints.

Maybe B16 is banking on the "Church as a sacrament" heresy to save them for the "good deed" of wearing a condom to not infect themselves and/or others.

As if this conversation with "Lombardi" and B16 should have taken place outside of the confessional...

You know, I really wonder what some of these priests say in the confessional sometimes.  When I heard the case of the SSPV priest who said if you're going to fornicate why not use contraception I was shocked but perhaps I'm very naive.

  • How far will this go?  Think about it.  The morals today, especially in the young people, are nil to non-existent.  There are more STDs than ever - AIDS being but one of many.

This is a slippery slope that won't take long to reach bottom given the sɛҳuąƖ climate in today's world.

To all the young people out there the Church has essentially authorized the advice that "if you're going to do it use protection"

This is what the Church has been pilloried for rejecting for years, and as far as the practical result of what has been said, whatever sophistical evasions are used to preserve the "orthodoxy" of the statement, the Church has in the eyes of the world at least endorsed condom use and we know very well the supposed Pope is not going to put much effort into disabusing them of that notion.

I think that he will prepare a statement "clarifying" everything but by that time it will be too out of control to rein in.  That will be the whole point.

My apologies to Myrna, who DID NOT utter the musings of this warlock Lombardi.  I don't know how to make the quote impersonal.

Why on Earth would this Vatican spokesman publicly aknowledge the existence of transɛҳuąƖs?  What percentage of the world's population is in that category, (or has not committed ѕυιcιdє yet) or has access to the occultic surgury?

I can only view this as a nod to Baphomet, evidence of the "Superforce", a shoutout to Lucifer, "Light of the World" .
