  • A traditional Catholic book publisher recently received this complaint:

Your website promotes the idea that evolution is a "hoax." Popes John Paul
the Great and Benedict XVI have said in clear and nuanced terms that
scientific understanding of the evolution of species is consistent with
faith in God as Creator and that science is good; the Catechism of the
Catholic Church also makes it quite clear that Genesis 1 is not meant to be
taken literally. Why are you promoting these un-Catholic ideas? What other
un-Catholic ideas are you promoting, as if normative? This "conservative"
deviation from the teachings of the Church is hardly better than "liberal"
deviations. I also see some judgementalism about women wearing pants, I can
tell you women's eyes are also drawn to men's crotches, perhaps men should
all wear medieval-type habits with long scapulars...or perhaps we should
all take control of our own gaze and actions. I have seen (and own) a lot
of good and valuable books from you but sometimes your company comes across
    as uninterested in real Catholicity.

(I will not post her name -- but I will say she lives in Madison, WI)
    Want to say "thank you"?

I don't think that I have ever read what they have said about evolution and science myself, but if the above is true, it's another one of those things that can be taken either way.  yes, science can be a good thing  - and given that microevolution (evolution within a species) doesn't contradict Catholic Church teaching - one could argue that in this sense they aren't all out wrong.  But consider the source- if they said that, it probably means they were trying to support liberalism and macroevolution without coming right and doing just that.
