Quote from stevusmagnus, from CA:
"You also uncritically demonize the role of secularity which has both positive and negative impacts. The positives include democracy, personal freedom, religious tolerance and human rights."
Ye-gads! Just try to convince somebody today that "democracy," and "freedom," and "tolerance," and "human rights" are bad things. The brainwashing runs very deep, right down into the spinal cord. The reaction against anyone who questions those hallowed concepts is quite visceral. Here in the Third World the terrible crime and corruption and lack of moral values make this conversation a little easier to have than back in the USA or in Europe. People here can still remember a time when criminals used to have electrodes applied to the nether parts to get them to talk and after a couple of decades now of obeying Canadian and American and Western European "human rights activists" they are starting to see the poisonous fruits: disintegration of families, gangs, public rudeness, open militant atheism and ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity, and rampant lawlessness. Sometimes I think there exist here better possibilities to turn things around then in the economically richer societies.
