Tricked into Thinking he is a Priest

  • Sadly, the SSPX is enabling this man in convincing himself that he is a validly ordained, Catholic priest. Looking at the comments, it looks pretty split as to the opinions of the faithful on the subject of ordination sub conditione. Those in favor, make excellent points as to why a conditional ordination should be considered as a necessary safeguard, in reply to which, the seminarian who runs their YouTube channel simply links to a video of Fr. McFarland failing to make the case against conditional reordination.

It is revealing that the SSPX will tell the faithful that they must submit to the judgement of their superiors (under the pain of grave sin) on this subject, but they themselves are not held to the same standard when they completely ignore what Bishop Tissier and Archbishop Lefebvre have said on the same.

  • ... a video of Fr. McFarland failing to make the case against conditional reordination.

Yes, that video require a rebuttal ... as it consists of very little besides gaslighting against sedevacantists.

He makes A (IMO weak) case for validity ... but, see, the problem is that the burden of proof is on him.  He admits there were substantial changes to at least the NO Rite of Consecration, and that by itself suffices to establish positive doubt, which he is in no position to dispel.  Only the Church's authority could decide the matter, but then they don't believe the Church enjoys infallibility in such matters (Universal Discipline), so the only solid argument he might have to remove positive doubt he can't even appeal to since it undercuts everything else the SSPX claims.

Bottom Line:  SSPX must uphold the validity of NO Orders, since anything else would be an obstacle to talks with Rome.  That's absolutely THE motivation for their position, not theology.

  • Now that the SSPX is allowing NO "priests" to serve their faithful, what is the practical difference between them and the indult groups? If all NO sacraments are objectively valid, and Leo XIV is objectively the Pope, how can the SSPX maintain that parishioners should attend their masses (and risk cooperating with a group not in full communion with Rome), rather than simply go to an approved indult group like the FSSP?

    It is all nonsense.

If one was to lay out all Catholic groups onto a political compass, the SSPX would land solidly on the "neocon" square, squished in between the FSSP and ICKSP. Funnily enough, basically every millennial dad at the SSPX, in my experience, if asked, would say that their favorite political commentators include the likes of Charlie Kirk, Matt Walsh, Ben Shapiro, etc.

“The Archdiocese of Omaha doesn’t seem like that much of a Modernist diocese”
And that was from the SSPX interviewer.

The Overton window on what is considered modernism has been shifted so far to the left in recent years. Any diocese that is not actively promoting ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity and allows the Latin Mass with only some restrictions is branded as "not modernist."

The same people who decry "modernism" will still let their wives wear pants, send their kids to a school that has a NO priest, let their children have phones and date protestant men, etc. To them, modernism starts and ends at "is the latin mass allowed?"

But when it comes to kneeling for the Jews on Good Friday or the liberalization of theologians' stances on sɛҳuąƖ morality since the late 19th century, and so on, their eyes glaze over and they go dumb. Apparently, modernism started in 1962 and its effects don't go beyond the changes to the Mass.

The ignorance is painful and groan-inducing.

You're absolutely right though. The average Trad under 40 is GROSSLY ignorant of many important matters -- practical, important matters related to living Catholic in the modern world -- and the only way around it is serious training from someone who knows. Either a serious OG Trad godfather of sorts, or some training at a Trad seminary. That's what I credit for my own non-ignorance.

Knowledge is crucial today. We can't be ignorant of the life-and-death struggle between the Faith and the Revolution, including the Devil's latest ace, Modernism.

  • I listened to the first ten minutes and when he said, "I was ordained in 2002. I am a priest," I groaned deeply.  Novus Ordo question mark for sure.

And just like Catholics post V2 put up little fight, the Catholics of the new/sspx just really don’t care enough.
    a.  Why would leadership have such evil goals?
    b.  I’m just a catholic trying to raise a family.  How’s is it my job to know these things?
    c.  Would God really allow our leaders to succeed and betray all these good Catholics?

It all boils due to naïveté, laziness and lukewarmness.
