Now if only they'd go back to publishing that wonderful newspaper they had "The Catholic" before they went with Rome.
Indeed. The old saying goes, "God draws straight with crooked lines."
I've had to change my mind multiple times in my pilgrimage through Area 54:Post Vatican II Tableau.
I hope that Papa Stronsay is going to realize itself - finally - as the continuation of the work of St. Alphonsus, Doctor of the Church.
They've always had a problem - the same problem we've all had. Confusion about positions and about authority - due to a massive indoctrination campaign that tries to force traditionalists into locating the juridical authority of the Church behind enemy lines.
Both the SSPX 1.0 Brand Supplied Jurisdiction Model, and the SSPX Brand 2.0 Sanborn Thesis Model decompose the Church, by placing the teaching and sanctifying office in men they claim have no authority whatsoever, except to dispense Sacraments to people who ask for them,
ad inifnitum; and by placing the disciplinary office of the Church in men who are, categorically, not members of the Church.
Since the 90's especially, anyone who came to the conclusion that they had to flee the novus ordo in order to preserve their faith, wound up in one of two camps: the SSPX 1.0 (SSPX proper, Resistance, and independents who follow that line) or the Sedevacantist 2.0 (thesis, totalist or opinionista). Nowhere in this landscape could anyone find a Bishop or clerical association that refused to decompose the Church in this way. Everyone on both sides of what is really only an ostensible divide got the same menu options. "Rome has the power; we have the Faith and the Sacraments."
Is it any wonder that the trad movement has fallen into a state that Verrecchio aptly qualified as the Church Paralyzed? Any wonder why we are always spiraling down into ever increasing degrees of enervation and inconsequence? I referred to it the other day as perpetual fatigue whoring.
These are the evil effects. The cause is theological error, and it is in both the R&R and the SV camps. It's the same error, and it produces identical effects: Divisions, strifes, factions, inaction, and absolute inefficacy.
Papa Stronsay never had a chance. During their sojourn with the SSPX, they were poisoned by the constant harping of R&R. Finally they went with the logic; and they did a much better thing than the SSPX has ever done. They determined that if this was really the Pope, they needed to go under his authority. Their logic was sound. The SSPX abides in the thickest, the most fetid intellectual fog imaginable.
And though it looked as if they had really gone backward, in the order of principles they advanced. They followed the principles and "tested the spirits." When they got to the quivering corpse structure, they could test those spirits from a much better vantage point. They determined, over a long course of time, that, though the logic be sound, the premises were false. Through their trial in the novus ordo, they were able to demonstrate for themselves that the premises underpinning their logical conclusions, were erroneous. The premise, "He is the Pope, " is false. And because it is false, their logic, though faithfully followed, could not stand.
And so they had to change their minds.
And now look!!! When they came out from the great tribulation otherwise known as the novus ordo, they found something that did not exist ever before in their experience. They found a sedevacantist Bishop who owns his authority, who rejects both SSPX 1.0 Supplied Jurisdiction and SSPX 2.0 Sanborn Thesis.
They've never had a superior like that. A superior like that puts real wind in the sails, because one comprehends that this superior believes in the Church as She really is in Her true constitution. Thus I predict that Papa Stronsay is positioned to realize it's greatest strides.
Not only did they publish on the Feast of St. Athanasius, but also on Kentucky Derby Day. Do I place a bet on this horse? Not yet. They have some other affiliations and relationships which give me real pause. Time is going to tell with them; but they are finally on the right racetrack.
