TLM sabotaged by modernist musical directors

  • Years ago, I used to attend the indult Mass at St Agnes here in New York. It was offered by a rotating group of holy and pious priests (mostly FSSP) and the choirmaster did an incredible job contributing to the sacral atmosphere through nearly exclusive use of Gregorian Chant.

Since then, it would seem, things have taken a turn for the worse. I've gone there just a handful of times in the past 4 or 5 years and the most jarring change has taken place in the musical arrangements. The Kyrie, the Gloria and the Sanctus and Agnus Dei now sound - quite literally - nightmarish. These were modern orchestrations that sounded like something Philip Glass and John Cage might have collaborated on.

I did a bit of research and discovered that the composer responsible for these monstrous compositions was a British atheist sodomite named Benjamin Britten. Imagine kneeling after the "Pax Domine sit semper vobiscuм" and being subjected to this:

The next day I sent an email to the parish "choirmaster" and the general email address asking why, with twenty centuries of beautiful Catholic musical arrangements to choose from, were the atonal, deeply disturbing modernist works of an open and notorious atheist and sodomite selected to be used in the Holy Mass?

I trust no one will be surprised to learn that I still have not received a response.

I am blessed to have access to TLM without these horrific acts of musical sabotage, but to see the state of affairs at St Agnes, the parish Bishop Sheen once called home, was disturbing to say the least. Is this type of thing common in other indult parishes? Has anyone else had the misfortune of running afoul of this Sodomite's Satanic-sounding music during TLM?

    God help us.

Venerable Fulton Sheen, pray for us.

  • Indult is an "insult" and is just a hoax   for the New Order to think they have reverence and etc.  If it is of the dioceses, and indults are, they are NO.  It is a way of keeping the people money going their way.

You are looking for the true Precious Blood that is in all the sacraments.  Indult is a joke.

  • That chant is clearly sacrilegious.

Do you live in New York. I live in New York. I also attended Mass at St. Agnes for a few months a few years ago but now I go to the SSPX chapel.

  • This is commonplace. Recently I was exploring Bristol cathedral (built by Catholics, now Anglican) when the Organ recital began. The rest of my visit was marred by 1 hour or so of avant-garde atonal meandering interspersed with atonal hammering. It was literally soul-destroying stuff. It almost seems deliberate, as if they are striving to be consciously blasphemous.

These new-churchers involved in sacred music are often rather strange people.  Like Ashmo.  They don't have much regard for the Catholic Faith.

  • I listened to that link posted... gosh, is that ever creepy.  I thank God we don't have to put up with anything like that at my chapel, we have a great choir.  They sing well and are very reverent.

If i ever heard something like that during Agnes Dei, I think I would get up and walk out of Church.

Sounds like someone there has let a tone deaf, talentless graduate from musicology school take over the choir. That's just criminal.

It is a shame, however, that there is nothing good to sing that was written in the past fifty years.

  • Sounds very similar to the sound clip from the "Omen".

Matter of fact, it sounds much more than just a coincidence.  I wouldn't be at all surprised that the diabolical sounding Agnus Dei you posted didn't come right out of this horror movie from the 1970's.

Avoid EVERYTHING which comes out of the Novus Ordo.  In my own opinion, it's diabolical and from the Devil.
