TLM at a NO Parish

I am struggling with assisting at the TLM or Dominican Rite at a NO parish.

The priests where I live are putting their necks out there to offer the TLM or Dominican Rite and are in my estimation holy priests.

One of my main concerns is how these priests can offer a solemn high Mass according to the 1962 Roman Missal and then turn around and offer the New Mass.  Also, that the daily Mass is always a NO Mass (although the trend is becoming that more TLM Masses are being offered during the week).

I have the experience of this being a form of hypocrisy or at least that the priests are not willing to stop offering the NO in fear of the backlash from the people, fellow priests and local ordinary.

In some way, it causes me to pause for a long while and discern if the TLM that is being offered by these priests is even valid or if it is a venial sin to assist at the TLM in these parishes with priests that are offering both the TLM and NO.

Finally, it seems that my best recourse is to assist at an SSPX parish and not attend the TLM offered at NO parishes.

Any insight you can help with would be greatly appreciated.

    PAX,

    Jeffrey

  • I suggest you stay away from the NO unless you need extreme unction and there is no one else available.  Even the Fraternity of st. Peter should be avoided.

If you are able, get a group of the traditional people together and encourage the priest to leave his diocese and be supported by you all.  Then encourage him to seek advice from a traditional bishop to consider conditional ordination.

I am not a fan of sspx, but if that is all you've got, by all means go.  I caution you not to get involved though, and don't send your children to their schools.

Good luck to you and God bless you.

  • This issue was the beginning of my departure from the diocesan TLM.  Only one priest in our diocese offered the TLM, but that same priest would celebrate the Novus Ordo service.  Despite this, I thought this priest wasn't like the others and that I had finally found a holy Catholic priest!

Well, once I started to listen closely to this priest's "homilies", I realized he was just a Vatican II religionist dressed up like a Catholic priest.  A smells and bells TLM priest.

Later on, as I delved into Vatican II and the new Paul VI rites, I also realized that this "priest" was a doubtful priest at best which made his TLM a doubtful sacrament.

  • The indult Masses should be avoided at all costs. They give you the old liturgy with the new faith which is so dangerous. The preaching, the atmosphere, everything there will be V2. Plus, it’s usually in the afternoon when the bastard rite was offered that morning in the same place. Plus, as mentioned, doubtful sacraments!
Please disregard everything I have said; I have tended to speak before fact checking.

There is no Extreme Unction in the Novus Ordo. They have Anointing of the Sick.

  • If any priest wants to say nothing but the TLM he will be tossed out or "laicised". IT's as simple as that.

  • Stay away.  If nobody shows up, that will discourage any priest secretly wanting the TLM (which will eventually lead him to tradition through God's grace) from sticking his neck out and it will die a sudden death in that diocese.  It's all or nothing......and it will be nothing.

There's two sides to every issue. The return to tradition has to start somewhere and it will start with the people.
    Pray and discern.

  • If sspx is in the same area, of course go to the sspx over a diocesan TLM.  High church immitation/placebo TLM is what is offered by diocese/ecclesia dei.  We need a fighting militant spirit for the times, and the glitz and glam of the baroque era is not going to aid us in such a fight.  It is too bad the sspx has gone a bit high church, but they are still better than ecclesia dei.

My experience is exactly like Fanny's. This insult mass (indult) is meant to capture trads (and their money). Do not attend, do not support them. I once met with an fssp priest, didn't actually attend his mess, but I questioned his integrity as a priest as he had come highly recommended and had (has) sermons online. A wolf in sheep's clothing.

that is not true if he joins the FSSP.
