  • I use to be Coptic (can u tell?) so I grew up with the miraclous references to Zeitun I have even been there. The wonderful conversion stories. The countless miracles that still occur today and the stories are out of this world. (Not necessarily related to the Zeitun Apparition) Still miracles occuring within the Coptic Orthodox Church which is a majority of the christians in Egypt. Its mind boggling? Devout orthodox living on bread n water out in caves and monsteries and I know as a Catholic they are our separated brethern.

What has confused me over the years with this Apparition which occured between 1967 n 1968 with 250 000 eye witnesses at a time many converting from Islam. Is the fact that Our Lady was NOT wearing her ROSARY which is common in all other apparitions? Im not sure if the Zeitun Apparition is even approved by the Catholic Church.

Just wondering if anyone has posted a thread on this topic before or knows much about it? My husband and I cant come to an aggreement as it looks good but not everything that glitters is gold.

Here is one site that gives the story as to what happened I have relatives who benefited from miracles at that time and have seen the apparitions themselves. These apparitions are ACTUALLY on FILM? I love the pictures I just hope it is from GOD.

    Thanks, Annie     http://zeitun-eg.org/zeitoun1.htm :read-paper:

  • These beautiful apparitions moved me deeply at the time-I found out about them around 1972.

Later I spoke with some Egyptians at a cafe whose nannnies had seen the apparitions, and their stories included some war or uprising and the nannies taking them away to remote hills to safety.  Very straightforward and non Medugorje type of miraculous stories.

I say be hopeful and inspired, but use caution.  Isn't this beautiful church on the spot where Our Lady came to Egypt?

  • Hi Annie,

    Here is my assessment:

The conversions are not to authentic Catholicism - the one True Faith outside of which there is no salvation.

If people are converting to the schismatic Orthodox Coptic Church how can it be from God?

Our Lady would not appear to bring people to a schismatic Church that is not her Son's one True Church.

Purported miracles both great and small can be from the Deceiver.

    Please be careful.

The Devil knows how to present evil as good.

I can see how these events can undermine a person’s Faith, leading them to believe that God, through Mary, is bringing people to the schismatic condemned Orthodox Religion. People will be deceived into believing that the Orthodox Religion is approved by God. But that would be a contradiction. God can't do that. He has already told us to be of the Church of his only Begotten Son - the Catholic Church.

Beware! Satan can appear as Mary, and even perform fake miracles. It has happened before. It stands to reason that it will be more commonplace and on a grander scale in this era where Satan has power in this world that is unprecedented since before Christ walked this earth.

We can't trust in ourselves, we need to follow Our Lord's directives and those of Holy Mother Church. Thankfully we know that we can be saved without believing any of the modern-day apparitions. Even if they appear to our weak intellects to be genuine, we do not NEED them, so best to keep SAFE. To be saved we must keep the Faith, and these apparitions are a threat to it.

  • Thanks for the  straightforward advice. This particular apparition is my home country and relatives testimonies tend to kinda make it a little more confusing. You are right there is only one holy apostolic church and it would be contradictory for Heaven to  promote the orthodox however close or reverent they maybe.

I did get inspiration out of it. I find the pictures most facinating but at the end of the day I guess I should compare it to the ones we ALL know to be heaven sent. Like Fatima or Lourdes.

How we must be on constant guard its almost so exhausting but we must press on. Its almost like playing that game mine sweep. We all know pious, good intentioned christians especially catholic ones who seem to get a little off track but really its not hard to do. Even those close to Mary and the Rosary I find can be way off the track.

Back to the apparitions though I do find that there are a few basic standards that Heaven seems to abide by:

    1.  Mary has a message

    2. The receipents are catholic or will become catholic (Guadalupe)

    3. Rosary is a huge weapon against Satan and Mary is ALWAYS wearing it around her

    4. It is a continuation of previous apparations and does not give confusion but clear direction to her Sons church the Catholic Church based on centuries of teachings and tradition.

So goes the battle I hope and pray my kids get through all of this as my friend mentioned to me its slim pickings out there.

    God bless

p.s Winter hit two days ago its a whopping -28 degrees celcius good news Im working inside!!!!!

  • Copticruiser - regarding what you said - '..the ones we ALL know to be heaven sent. Like Fatima & Lourdes.'

Please be aware that you can be a good Catholic & not believe in Fatima, Lourdes or any other apparition. They are not Church doctrine & so you don't have to believe in them.
