You speak of "the reform of the neoSSPX" as if it's a thing -- as if such a reform exists.

How can you discuss something as if it's part of reality, when it's purely hypothetical?

There is no "reform of the neo-SSPX" in this reality. It would take a miracle for them to turn around.

Now, I did really expect some return of neo-SSPX to the more paleo-SSPX attitude after the excommunication, since that largely scuttled any talks they were in and the compromises they felt they needed to make in order to continue them. But no such luck. Instead they appealed the excommunication .. which implies that it might have validity, since there's no need for them to lift a non-excommunication. I felt also that they compromised on NO Holy Orders precisely because of the talks and they could now stop pretending. But that hasn't happened either.

Well, at least you seem to prove the middle ground right there. We have Popes who don't engage infallibility, and rarely conform to faith and morals in their general commands, making one choose the salvation of souls over what they command.

I would elevate slightly a sermon from how you seem to classify it since it is supposed to be as Christ speaking during a sermon at Mass, though we know material heresy is possible by human frailty.

They accept a papacy that is clearly and unequivocally promoting doctrines that are heretical and injurious to one's soul. They accept the pope as pope, a heretical pope - another heretical pope - until / unless a future pope says otherwise, which may or may not ever happen.

Their leader, Bp Fellay, signed a statement in behalf of the SSPX that it accepts ALL of VII. False. Where do you come up with this bs? OTOH if true, then the SSPX is NO.

They have a schizophrenic policy of accepting novus ordo priests ordained in the new rite by bishops of doubtful validity. False. It is just as easy to say that most NO priests get conditionally ordained - which actually is the fact of the matter. Either way, each NO priest's ordination gets investigated for validity. Again, they believe the NO Ordinations are valid when done by the book. Personally, like you, I do not - but they most certainly do not have your false accusation of a "schizophrenic policy" of just accepting NO priests.

The papacy is not a simple office, nor are it's powers simple, nor is it's authority unlimited. It's quite complex, as this crisis has shown.

If a heretic pope was easy to explain, it wouldn't have taken St Bellarmine 5 opinions, nor would it have absorbed the time/energy of St Bellarmine and all the top theologians for multiple decades of study, research and debate. An effort which STILL did not lead to a consensus or an easy explanation.

Your overly-simplistic, either-or narrative simply ignores many aspects of the papacy in a desire to reach a quick answer that the modern, muddled, lazy mind can swallow.
