  • The Priest Is Never Right

If he is happy.........he is a nuisance.
If he is austere......... he is bad tempered.

If he is handsome......... why didn't he marry.
If he is ugly ......... nobody loved him.

If he is fat ......... he eats too much.
If he is thin......... he is stingy.

If he is tall......... he looks down on people.
If he is short......... he looks like an altar boy.

If he owns a car......... he likes material things.
If he walks......... he is old-fashioned.

If he visits the faithful......... he meddles in other people's business.
If he stays in the rectory......... he is an introvert.

If he talks about Heaven......... he is a modernist.
If he talks about Hell......... he is a Jansenist.

If he preaches long sermons......... he is boring.
If he preaches short sermons......... he doesn't want to get tired.

If he speaks normally......... you cant understand what he says.
If he raises his voice......... he screams.

If he asks for donations......... he is greedy.
If he doesn't ask for donations......... his bank account should be checked.

If he fixes up the chapel......... he doesn't care about peoples money.
If he doesn't fix up the chapel......... he doesn't care about the chapel.

If he is young......... he lacks experience.
If he is old......... he should retire.
If he is in between.........  he is in a critical age.

Do as he may......... or even if he does nothing, *he will never be right* !

But if he leaves......... who will take his place ?

Pray for him and help him

You left out a few, B(p.)azz.

Yes he needs prayers as we all do. He needs to be accountable, as we all do.
It would be comparatively easy for us to be holy if only we could always see the character of our neighbours either in soft shade or with the kindly deceits of moonlight upon them. Of course, we are not to grow blind to evil

It's not a question of whether I like it or not, it's a matter of whether theses opinions of the Priest are actually held by people.    I don't hold any of those opinions of Priests and I would like to submit this list of alternative views of our Priests....

If he is a good and Holy Priest all of the following sentiments apply:
I hope he is at least reasonably happy in this life and eternally happy in the next

If he is handsome or ugly, I don't care

If he is fat or thin, I don't care

If he is tall or short, I don't care.

If he owns a car, I hope it's a good one to keep him safe

If he visits me, I am thankful that in spite of my unworthyness, a Priest has had the time to do so, if he does not visit me, I pray that God gives him the strength to carry the load of terrible sinners like myself.

If he talks about Heaven and or Hell ... Thank God

If he preaches long sermons.... Thank God

If he speaks truth... I pray that I have the good sense to listen

If he asks for donations ... see the precepts of the Church
If he doesnt' .....  see the precepts of the Church and do it anyway based on your state in life

If he is young......... God willing, he has a lot of years ahead.
If he is old........ May his experience help guide us to Heaven.

  • UA, rather, is there any portion of what I posted that you actually object to? Reprint it, and let us know why? If you don't object to any of it, then you think it is a good posting.

    I'm wondering why B(p.)azz can't understand this.

  • I hope priests believe many of these things about themselves.  Then there mission will be founded on solid ground, humility.  I don't ever tell my children they are so good looking and brilliant.  I tell them that nobody is perfect we all have flaws.

  • B(p.)azz’s post is ridiculous in the present circuмstances. What is ridiculous and pathetic is that a cleric would put something like this out there during a real crisis where people are concerned about real events must be almost completely detached from reality. As Bp. Dolan might say, “It is meant to conceeeeal rather than reveeeeal.”

How much more of this type of manipulative nonsense can people take?

  • Here's another SGG priest speaking in a sermon at a time when there were many questions and contradictory statements from Bp. Dolan and his Bazzistant.

    Quote
“One of the main faults, remember that I was a parishioner here for many years, before I went into the seminary, on a whole, of this chapel, one of the main faults, as a whole, in this chapel, is the gossiping. Talking and criticizing and gossiping, that is one of the main faults here. And St Clare’s is very much known for that fault.” –Fr. Charles McGuire speaking to the people of St. Clare’s in November of 2009.

  • How could St. Clare's be "known" for gossiping unless other people (including Charles/Father McGuire) TALKED -- i.e., GOSSIPED -- about this issue?

These men are so STUPID it is embarrassing.

  • I am surprised at the negative reaction this occasioned, which actually all the more shows it was needed. This was not in reply to anything, just a new topic of something I have had for quite some time, and really like it. In general, I do see people need help with understanding the virtue of charity better. Why was the first question in response whether it was posted at SGG? Why the fixation against SGG in almost everything? I have no idea whether the SGG bulletin even reprinted that.

Yes, it is a good question whether one likes it. Why? Because one should like it. If one may not personally care to follow that example it does not necessarily mean he also condemns that example, so it is a good question whether one likes the original post or not. It represents in a most Catholic way the effects of original sin, our fallen inclination to think the worst, even about a priest, based on nothing but a simply observation. Only two examples really were necessary, but more simply drove the point home more.

The original post is purely hypothetical, and was not addressed to any one. First, it relates a fact about a priest, and then mentions an extreme that fallen human nature may rashly judge in response. Very realistic. I love it because it reminds me well of thinking the best. It wards off sarcasm and cynicism in thinking negative things about others. Yes, for individuals it is humble to consider the worst in ourselves, while it is humble to consider the best in others in regard to moral fault.

Unfortunately, I see that SJB and gladius_veritatis are replying, but just to let everyone know, since my words have been deleted with that Ode thread, I had put SJB and gladius_veritatis on ignore, so, I will not be responding to their comments. Their insults in ordinary discussion are really too much.

That is your opinion.  I disagree.  Yes, we should think the best of others, but this piece fails to accomplish the desired goal because it is so cheesy and lamely framed.

Dear douche-Bazz,  it is plain you are reading our comments, even if you choose to pretend you are ignoring us and refrain from responding to them directly -- like any MAN would.  Your passive-aggressive manner reminds me of certain clerics in Ohio... :scratchchin:

Was umblehay's question negative? No.  Was his revised version negative?  Hardly.  Was insidebaseball's response negative?  Again, no.

Other than the above-referenced posts, there are a total of ZERO that were NOT composed by SJB or me.  So, the only way Bazz could get the impression that the response, whether in part or as a whole, was negative is...if he READ SJB's and/or my comments.

Gee, that was about as hard as proving that two plus two does, in fact, equal four...or proving that the VoV are habitual liars.
