  • In his new book: Pope Benedict XVI on Judaism
    Benedict XVI
The Pope of the Forked Tongue

    Papal-approved prayer:
“Dear God, help me to refrain from the temptation of praying directly for the conversion of the Jєωs."

The most piquant passages of the latest book-interview of Benedict XVI. Translation from the German provided by the website of Sandro Magister.

    On Judaism

I must say that from the first day of my theological studies, the profound unity between the Old and New Testament, between the two parts of our Sacred Scripture, was somehow clear to me. I had realized that we could read the New Testament only together with what had preceded it, otherwise we would not understand it. Then naturally what happened in the Third Reich struck us as Germans, and drove us all the more to look at the people of Israel with humility, shame, and love.

In my theological formation, these things were interwoven, and marked the pathway of my theological thought. So it was clear to me – and here again in absolute continuity with John Paul II – that in my proclamation of the Christian faith there had to be a central place for this new interweaving, with love and understanding, of Israel and the Church, based on respect for each one's way of being and respective mission [. . .]

A change also seemed necessary to me in the ancient liturgy. In fact, the formula was such as to truly wound the Jєωs, and it certainly did not express in a positive way the great, profound unity between Old and New Testament. For this reason, I thought that a modification was necessary in the ancient liturgy, in particular in reference to our relationship with our Jєωιѕн friends. I modified it in such a way that it contained our faith, that Christ is salvation for all. That there do not exist two ways of salvation, and that therefore Christ is also the savior of the Jєωs, and not only of the pagans. But also in such a way that one did not pray directly for the conversion of the Jєωs in a missionary sense, but that the Lord might hasten the historic hour in which we will all be united. For this reason, the arguments used polemically against me by a series of theologians are rash, and do not do justice to what was done. (End quote; emphasis supplied)

    Michael Hoffman’s analysis:

Pope Benedict XVI states “...what happened in the Third Reich struck us as Germans, and drove us all the more to look at the people of Israel with humility, shame, and love...”

Presumably this name Israel is a reference to the Judaics alive during the time of the Third Reich. My question to the pope would be, what makes them Israel, ethnicity or belief?

By ethnicity we have no evidence that the millions of Judaics alive during the 1930s and '40s were direct descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, anymore than we could sort out among the Italians of Mussolini’s day who among them were direct descendants of the Caesars. This descent is long in the sands of time. Even if the Judaics really were Jєωs, the pure and direct descendants of Jacob-Israel, Jesus Christ raised the issue of what it means to be a scion of Abraham, in his confrontation with the Pharisees:

I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you. speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your father."

They answered him, "Abraham is our father."

Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would be doing the works Abraham did, but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did. You are doing the works your father did."

They said to him, "We were not born of sɛҳuąƖ immorality. We have one Father—even God."

Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me. Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. (John 8:37-44).

Pope Benedict is a crypto-rabbi so he must refer to those who, as a result of their institutionalized rejection of Jesus Christ, have the devil as their father, as “Israel," toward whom the future pope felt “shame.” This is the modern view to which the pope adheres and not the view of Jesus Christ, which the pope ignores. The megalomaniacal, self-worshipping (BT Bava Metzia 59b) тαℓмυdic rabbis, call themselves “Israel," and so too does the Roman Catholic Church. The symbiosis is undeniable.

In terms of belief, most Judaics during the Third Reich period were either religious, or liberal agnostic or Communist-atheist. Among the religious Judaics, their religion is the тαℓмυd and not the Bible.

Next, the two-faced pope puts forth the first part of his doublethink: "Christ is salvation for all. That there do not exist two ways of salvation, and that therefore Christ is also the savior of the Jєωs, and not only of the pagans.”

This papal statement is ecstasy for the Catholic Right wing who, based on this fragment, can proclaim, “When it comes to the Jєωs, Pope Benedict speaks in absolute fidelity to the New Testament!”

Next, the two-faced pope puts forth the second part of his doublethink: "But also in such a way that one did not pray directly for the conversion of the Jєωs in a missionary sense...”

The pope in one sentence has just flushed 2,000 years of missionary effort on the part of Jesus Christ (Matthew 15:24), Sts. Peter and Paul and the whole of the early Church, in absolute defiance of the New Testament.

This papal statement is ecstasy for the rabbis and the Catholic Left, who can declare “Jєωs are not be be the focus of conversion in a missionary sense!”

Truly, Benedict XVI is the pope of the forked tongue.
