  • This is nothing new.  In 1977 (I believe), a major American Catholic (sic) organization drew-up a docuмent calling for the de-sinning of ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity.  However, these statistics, are "proof positive" that orthodox Catholics should have little to nothing to do with the Novus Ordo.

  • Careful about kneejerk reactions.  If we read the full study:

There is a large gap in support for same-sex marriage between Catholics with different religious service attendance patterns.  Only about 1 in 4 (26%) Catholics who attend services weekly or more favor allowing gαy and lesbian people to marry, compared with 43% of Catholics who attend once or twice a month, and 59% of Catholics who attend a few times a year or less.

Also, we do not know where they derive their pool of interviewees, but this should give you a general idea:

  • So, at least 1 in 4 people are your typical NO Mass are heretics.  Too high a figure for me.  For a Tridentine Mass said by a traditionalist priest, I bet the figure is less than 1 in 20.

  • Well only 14% of self-professed Catholics believe that pre-marital sex is wrong, and only 30% among those who attend mass weekly. So these stats on NO Catholics and ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity don't surprise me.

    From Colleen Hammond's site:

In a recent CARA study, (Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate) only 14% of Catholics thought that premarital sex was “always wrong”. Even amongst those Catholics who attend Mass at least once a week, only 30% agreed that premarital sex is “always wrong”. (See chart below). By the way, for Church-going Protestants, the number of those who agree with the Biblical teaching on premarital sex is about 62%.

That means that more than 70% of Mass attending Catholics do not agree with the teaching of Scripture and the Church that premarital sex (the Bible calls it fornication) is wrong!

As Msgr. Pope says, we have a lot of work to do. He proactively put together a PDF file of Biblical quotes on purity and other sɛҳuąƖ matters.

How could they not eventually accept fornication when they accept 4 years of high school and college coeducation before marriage?  How could they think it's wrong but make no real effort to make sure it is avoided?  The schools and feminism are the real enemies.

  • How is this a surprise when you have heretic NO priests (like one at the parish I attended before I became attuned to all this) saying that "very few people go to hell."  This breeds an attitude of, "I'll go to Heaven as long as I'm a decent person and don't hurt anybody."

The de-emphasis of Hell is very notable in Catholic schools/CCD.  I went to Catholic school until 5th grade (and CCD until I was confirmed in 8th grade) and I can probably count the mentions of Hell or mortal sin during that entire time on one hand.  Whether it be out of sheer laziness or more sinister motives, the catechesis in Catholic schools/CCD is extremely watered-down and poor.

While not all families are capable of homeschooling their kids when it comes to their general education, they absolutely should provide them with orthodox catechesis at home imo.

For the traditionalists, it's probably one in a zillion, and the one has a head injury.  Of course the number is too high.  All I meant was consider the source.  These studies are often deliberately skewed.
