  • Could anyone who has an opinion on the Society of Jesus of St. Ignatius please offer it here? I want to learn about the Jesuits but I am afraid of being deceived by propaganda, so I would like to listen to the older and wiser folk here believe. I have heard horrible things concerning the Order but I do not know how much of that is Protestant exaggeration and propaganda.

  • The Jesuits are a convenient bogeyman for Protestant propagandists. They blame everything that should be properly attributed to the consequences of their own revolt on the Jesuits. The Jesuits created the Freemasons, the Jesuits caused the World Wars, the Jesuits were behind the secession of the South... I wouldn't listen to anything these nut jobs have to say. A ton of protestants actually believe the Jesuits sunk the Titanic. I'm not kidding. Google it.

The good side of the Jesuits was their militant proselytizing spirit. They were a formidable opponent to the Protestants. Their bad side was their tendency towards rationalism, worldliness, and disproportionate involvement in secular affairs which drew the ire of the authorities and ultimately resulted in their suppression.

  • My instinct on the matter is the same as yours, Knight. I think you're right that I shouldn't bother listening to such speech, especially seeing as that it often culminates in slander against men that are canonized saints.
