No compromising of the Faith nor a need to make excuses for actions of THEIR POPE.
One can believe that there is a pope and not compromise their Faith. One does not have to make 'excuses' for any pope, because we realize that popes are men, who can go to hell just like the rest of us. They are not oracles, or miracle-workers, or spiritual mediums whereby God talks to us through them. They are not immune from heresy, or modernism, or laziness, or even womanizing (as many examples of the middle ages proved). Popes need prayers. Popes can err. Popes are men, who have been ordained, consecrated and lifted to the office of the papacy - but still men, just like the rest of us.
