  • Due to the recent interest shown in the Templars I have received an email from CM listing the following Bulls of Clement V condemning them. They date from Mar 1312 to Jan 1313

    1-- Vox in Excelso
    2-- Ad Providam
    3-- Considerantes
    4-- Nuper in Concilio
    5-- 1 Dec 1312
    6-- Licet Dudum
    7-- 31 Dec 1312
    8-- Licet Pridem

I am aware of 4 historians  who believe the Templars to be innocent.  Fr Sturzo-- who says that 'no Pope has sunk lower than Clement V', Fr Laux, Fr Radecki, and HK Mann( the Catholic historian-- not the Prot). These historians are in fact saying that the Pope is wrong. I am not sure how far up the ladder of Infallibility these condemnations are. If they are in fact Infallible then the four historians have a problem.

I do not know about Baronious or Marianna but I believe Fr Parsons comes down on the guilty side.

  • I am not aware of any Pope who has revised, edited or otherwise gutted any of the above docuмents-- unlike our hero Clement, who gutted 90% of Unam Sanctam. To my knowledge, no Pope has ever brought back the bull of the deposed anti-pope Boniface.

It might be a good idea to let CM back in to debate me on Boniface-- as long as Raoul is gone that is.

  • People other than history buffs are interested in the Templars?

  • They are useful when creating a mythology of ancient nobility and brave adventures. They, like the Knights of the Round Table, are the inspiration for great literature, art and music and qualify as Nietsche's supermen. However, their imagery is borrowed by others like the Freemasons and Hollywood for their own uses.
