  • "I receive Thee, redeeming Prince of my soul. Out of love for Thee have I studied, watched through many nights, and exerted myself: Thee did I preach and teach. I have never said aught against Thee. Nor do I persist stubbornly in my views. If I have ever expressed myself erroneously on this Sacrament, I submit to the judgement of the Holy Roman Church, in obedience of which I now part from this world." Saint Thomas Aquinas the greatest Doctor of the Church

the Church never presumes to declare any particular person to be in Hell.

It is de fide that Judas is in hell.

The same might be said for Muhammad as well.
    Pray for me, always.

Now Griff Ruby pinpoints exactly where the Pope lost his office better than anyone else I have seen.  However even if you were to disagree with the precise time the office of the Papacy lost its claimant the teaching of the Church is clear on the topic which is as follows:

    1.   A heretic cannot become Pope.
    2.   Where a valid Pope to teach heresy (it is highly doubtful this could happen but if it did) he would ipso facto lose the office without any declaration needed.  For he will have proven himself to be a heretic whether he intended to be a heretic or not.

One would have to prove-not by personal insight-but formally if a cleric was a heretic, such as Fr. Martin Luther was condemned........Honorius, wsa he "valid" Pope?,etc...

B16 has stated the counter syllabus stuff, but he states the obvious, to my knowledge he has not said "this is a counter syllabus and its great!", of similar......also, often wonder what gets lost in language and reporting, even in Trad circles....no, a ehretic cannot be a pope, but likely an argument can be made that almost all Popes in last several centuries could be one with enough digging and time....that can get dangerous, as we see with our mutual poster/friend Catholic Martyr...
Proud "European American" and prouder, still, Catholic

  • Some people are just too afraid to find the truth, so they don't look for it.

I can think of all sorts of statements that I could rhyme off to you, and you would condemn them as heretical, or New Word Order, if you didn't suspect that they came from one of your "popes", and if you believed the Magisterium firmly and faithfully.

"Christians can and ought to admit that the Jєωιѕн reading of the Bible is a possible one"

"though not belonging to the visible body of the Catholic Church, have given noble and sincere expression to their appreciation of all that unites them to Us in love for the Person of Christ or in belief in God"

"The social Body of Jesus Christ in which each individual member retains his own personal freedom, responsibility, and principles of conduct."

"Serious motives, such as those which not rarely arise from medical, eugenic, economic and social so-called 'indications,' may exempt husband and wife from the obligatory, positive debt for a long period or even for the entire period of matrimonial life. From this it follows that the observance of the natural sterile periods may be lawful, from the moral viewpoint"

"An act of love is sufficient for the adult to obtain sanctifying grace and to supply the lack of baptism"

"For the whole of mankind was freed from the slavery of sin by the shedding of the blood of Jesus Christ as their ransom, and there is no one who is excluded from the benefit of this Redemption"

"all States, putting aside mutual suspicion, should unite in one league, or rather a sort of family of peoples "

"The Christian religion and other religions can offer their contribution to development"

"the most appropriate framework for promoting fraternal collaboration between believers and non-believers in their shared commitment to working for justice and the peace of the human family"

"This seems necessary in order to arrive at a political, juridical and economic order which can increase and give direction to international cooperation for the development of all peoples in solidarity"

I could go on and on.

This is why we are traditional Roman Catholics, or, to be more specific, Roman Catholics.

  • C.M.M.M. I can see you bending over backwards to defend all of these, so don't even bother.

Don, I do not understand your comment.
