Since my wife decided some time back to go traditional I have been wondering just what is meant by that word.
Help a recovering Protestant out please.

Cruiser, to be traditional is to be Catholic.

As St Paul urges us [2 Thessalonians 2:14 (http://www.drbo.org/cgi-bin/d?b=drb&bk=60&ch=2&l=14#x)]:
"Therefore, brethren, stand fast; and hold the traditions which you have learned, whether by word, or by our epistle."
That's what we Catholics do.

Being a cradle Catholic for 72 years, I had never heard this word "traditional" to refer to Catholics; but since John XXIII opened the windows and let in fresh air all manner of deviation from those traditions which St Paul exhorts us to hold, we needed a word to cover those persons and practices which were true to the traditional teachings. We needed the word "traditional" to differentiate between what is the faith handed down and deviations brought about by Vatican II.

I look forward to the day when we have a pope who will declare Vatican II to be a false council. :pray:

For me the term 'traditional Catholic' is one who has not deviated one inch from the faith experienced by those born before Vatican II.
First are the traditional teachings of the Church. These are found in the pre-Vatican II catechisms. One such catechism is A CATHECHISM OF CATHOLIC DOCTRINE, approved by the archbishops and bishops of ireland 1951. I know where copies of this catechism can be got.
Then there is the Latin Mass. Traditional Catholics go to the Latin Mass and traditional devotions. This Mass, every Sunday, every week, is the way to keep the faith alive throughout our lives. I notice a growing number of Catholics are now seeking out the traditional latin Mass these days. The new Mass is little different than the Protestant service used by Protestants.
Finally remember your search is the result of a grace given to you by God to help you find true Catholicism. He has chosen you for some reason. God bless your journey.

The diabolical heresies of VatII church did not fall out of the sky in 1963, they already had entered the bishops and clergy that carried through the revolution. One has to look at the origins of any teaching that "smells" untraditional. For instance, the dialogue mass originated in the 1920's and was in practice in France big time pre-VatII. It was a stepping stone to the Novus Ordo, but the SSPX French priest think it is tradition. The same goes for the Holy Week changes under Pius XII and Bugnini.
