    I also find that interesting, as Dr White observed in a lecture on Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice” down in Winona that Dante cast both sodomite and usurer into the same circle of hell:

    The circle of the violent.

    Both do violence against nature:

    The sodomite, by taking that which is fertile and making it barren, and the usurer, by taking that which is barren and making it fertile.
