You mean by skipping the Popes after St. Pope Pius X, it doesn't show due respect to PPXII?
I'll be real: I saw old Pope pictures and knew they weren't Wojtyla (and smiled widely because someone would usually make a wisecrack I didn't understand, but knew my parents were mad that we kids heard the wisecrack), but at the time, I didn't know you HAD to hang up anything, so no, it didn't freak me out. I think the first one I saw (and I barely remember it) was during Wojtyla's thing, and it was of PPXII. I just figured "decor".
Later, at some SSPXes, we saw BXVI, but then I visited our local NO and the 'priest' there had an upside-down BXVI, and [
ditzy blonde moment] I wondered why they didn't just remove the picture instead of going full-666 with it. My husband explained then that is why we're not no catholics anymore.
I don't think it's offensive to see a St. Pope Pius X pic; I've seen the Leo III
and thought he was Charlemange but I didn't really feel it was a offensive to Pius X. And (worse yet), as a child, I'd thought a Pope Pius V was
Santa Claus! (St. Nicholas.) My Mom walloped me on the back of the head when I said it aloud.
Nope: I'm good as long as it's not:
and then I would run for the hills.
