On 23 November 1927, Miguel Agustín Pro, a Mexican Jesuit, was executed by a firing squad in Mexico City.

The execution of Blessed Miguel Pro, a Jesuit priest martyred in 1927 during the Cristero War, resulted in significant conversions and miracles.  Despite the government's attempt to use his public execution as a warning, the widespread distribution of photographs of his death had the opposite effect, inspiring the faithful to remain steadfast in their faith.

Within weeks of his martyrdom, reports emerged of numerous miracles, including the healing of incurable illnesses and the dramatic conversions of hardened sinners. His courageous example strengthened the resolve of thousands of Catholics who faced persecution, solidifying his legacy as a powerful intercessor and a symbol of resistance against the anti-clerical government of Plutarco Elías Calles.

Fr. Pro had prayed for the grace of a martyrs death, and said that he wanted to offer himself as a victim to Divine Justice for the salvation of the Faith in Mexico, for the peace of the Church, and for the conversion of its persecutors.

40,000 people accompanied his coffin to the cemetery through the streets of Mexico City, and another 30,000 waited at the cemetery.  And this, despite the fact that the government had prohibited it.  No priest was allowed to officiate at his funeral (since the government had outlawed all Catholic priests), so his father prayed the burial prayers at his grave.  Padre Pro pray for us!
