Quote from: Elizabeth
Merton had and still does have a strong influence as the American Mystic.  He was supposedly a Trappist Monk- wrote some very popular books.  One was The Seven Story Mountain  He was very destructive to the practice of Roman Catholicism.

He was a Bhuddist, and an agent some alphabet group or ?????

Doggone it, Belloc.  Finding out about Merton was a turning point, and now I can't even qualify it.     :fryingpan: :fryingpan: :fryingpan:   <<<-------That's for my head, not yours.

He died of electrocution in a bath in Bangkok or someplace.

Now I'm going to go pray and take some brain supplements. :fryingpan:

always heard some bad things about him, a NO/syncretist, but, do you feel someone murdered him? who?

Belloc, I'm wracking my brains to recall my source.

I'll google around after swimming..

Yeah, it was Chardin alright.  He kept talking about stuff that sounded like Chardin's "Omega Point" nonsense.

Well, you can sue me, but I found the movie Angels and Demons to be very interesting.  I hesitated giving even 10 cents of the 50-cent rental to Hanks and Brown.  Of course Hanks can't help slamming the Church throughout the movie..  What I found very interesting was the revelation of who the actual villain turned out to be and what his true motivation was.

I've got two more parts of Shoes to watch.

I would watch Angels and Demons online if I knew it would not be a mortal sin, based on what Lad says.

How is sin avoided in this case?  Thanks.

PS, still no nothing to jog my memory about Merton.  I am thinking it was an interview with Michael Corbin or one of Fr. Gruner's guests, and I remember that the info on Merton caused me to wonder seriously about JP2.  Sorry for making any unfounded accusations.
