  •  Here is the original quote from Pope Benedict speaking in France on Sept 15, 2008.

LOURDES, France - People must accept death at "the hour chosen by God," Pope Benedict XVI told ailing pilgrims Monday in an anti-euthanasia message at Lourdes, the shrine that draws the desperate, sick and dying.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

Looks like an AP news release so I don't know who composed " people must accept death".  Please inform our fearless leader - mission accomplished. There is a global euthanasia movement in progress which should be quickly accelerated  due to the abandonment of Christianity in Western Civilization.  I can imagine President Bush telling Pope Benedict : "Benny, you're doing a heck of a job".

Ok, I know you can weasel out of this one and say something good about Benedict's statement, but like just about everything in the Vatican II era, the words seem to contain a message from the Prince of Darkness, who seeks the death of all souls.

  • I don't get it, Classicom. What's your point??

As opposed to choosing when and how they die,"People must accept death at "the hour chosen by God". That's the Catholic principle. We accept that when God decides our time is up, we die. Not when anyone else decides that for us, through euthanasia or abortion, for example.

So, it could be stated thus:

Pro-euthanasia/abortionists/atheists/etc: We have the right to chose the hour and the way in which we die. Our lives and the lives of the unborn and the elderly are ours to do with as we please.

The Pope: People must accept death at the hour chosen by God.

Even though it seems rather odd to quote only five words out of the Pope's entire address in order to demonstrate how he is spreading the words of the Prince of Darkness, nevertheless those words are entirely in keeping with the Catholic view of death.

  • I couldn't discern anything untoward in it either.

    Makes a pleasant change!

Here is a similar reaction from another forum. It might not seem logical on my part, but it was more of a gut reaction. I am used to the idea that Christ came to give us abundant life.

Might He have been referring to eternal life? That's about as abundant as it gets. We need to die before we can get it!
