  • Thank you for the warning.
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

  • I'd almost like to take a peek at what Frank's giving away in his "emergency medical kit". Check out TODAY'S Frank-up:

    Quote from: Bergoglio
"I would now recommend to all of you here in the square a medicine : some people think that the Pope is trying to be a pharmacist ... It is a special medicine to realize the fruits of the Year of Faith, which is drawing to a close. Its a medicine of 59 beaded grains : it is a spiritual medicine called Misericordina . It is kept in a box , which some volunteers will distribute as you leave the square. Take it : it is a Rosary , with which you can pray the 'chaplet of Divine Mercy ' , pearl of our soul and spiritual help to spread love , forgiveness and brotherhood everywhere. Do not forget to take it, because it does us good: the heart, the soul, our whole life! I wish you all a good Sunday. Have a good lunch and good-bye . "

So everyone was supposed to take a "spiritual medicine box" with a rosary in it, but don't pray the Rosary for Heaven's sake, says Frank-en-furter. "Pray the 'chaplet of Divine Mercy'"

I'm telling you, canon 1 does NOT APPLY to this guy.

And his stupid irritating "blessing"/benediction: "I WISH you all a good Sunday. Goodbye." (Paw up in the air.) Now I'm going to be looking for him to make a circle with his paw. That video was CREEPY!

I'm looking for links to a picture of what exactly Frank has stowed in the box. The AFP described it as creepy, but the picture I see doesn't show the crucifix.

Is it wrong to heckle the guy? Anyone know how to say, "I'd rather have heroin for medicine!!!" in Spanish? Maybe we could get him on a drug charge,  :laugh1:

  • Are there thorns around the heart on that package in some kind of relation to the Sacred Heart?

Did he enlist an Monophsyite or an anatomy book illustratior to design the packaging?

It and the twisted Aztec of JP2 are just ugly. I can't believe they are any representation of Our Blessed Lord.

The images shown here in this video are all news to me.  I have not seen
any such rosaries anywhere.  But now that I know what to look for, I'll be
able to recognize them when I come across them.

I have a rosary that probably came from Medjugorje, because the image
of Our Lady on the centerpiece has her arms out like she's going to splash
some water at you.  Also, the corpus on the crucifix is rather turned
sideways, which is a bit odd.  Otherwise, it's an uneventful rosary, but I
must say, that whenever I use it to pray the Rosary I get a dull, empty
feeling, like I had not really prayed my Rosary at all. It's not easy to
identify, but I have noticed it.

Some years ago, a priest who had a basket of free Miraculous Medals
for people to take, was found to have imitation medals in it that were
from Medjugorje.  When I told the priest about it, he said that I could
remove them from the mix and he'd be careful to watch out for them
in the future.  He said that I should bury them in the ground, just to
be sure they're not abused because he had blessed them all.

Priests have a lot to keep up with, so we should tell them these things
when we come across them.  I would say, however, that you might
be better off to find one of these plastic rosaries to show the priest so
he knows what you're talking about.  The part that says you should
pick it up with a stick and not to touch it seems to be going a bit far.
    Sounds a bit like superstition.

People are prone to to to extremes.  Either something is ALL GOOD or
else it's ALL BAD, and there is nothing in between.

But we live in a world of grey tones.  There are shades of gray.  A lot
of things are a mixture of good and evil in this world.

We are called to a higher level of discernment.

I had a Rosary that was really special, for it came from my mother,
and my grandmother had it before that.  It was from France and had
a sterling centerpiece with Our Lady of Lourdes on it.  And I had
another really special rosary, of sterling silver, which was missing one
bead, so I got a replacement and repaired it.  I kept both of them
in a pouch that a friend gave to me.  The pouch was a cheap one
made in China and it tended to stick to my hand because of the
sharp protrusions in the fabric.  I noticed that the pouch was falling
out of my pocket when I pulled my hand out of it.  But I did not
pay any attention to that.  Then one day, the pouch with both Rosaries
in it was missing.  I retraced my steps and did not find it.  I went to
the Sheriff's station and reported it lost.  I checked all the pawn shops
in the area.  I asked people about it.  Nothing.

So my two irreplaceable Rosaries were lost, and they are gone now
forever, I'm sure.  Both of them were over 100 years old, and
probably had been used thousands of times, but now they're gone.

My take-away with this is we should not be too attached to material
    things.

We are called to a higher level of discernment.

There is no "www" in front of the address, vaticaninsier.lastampa.it/en...

    Source

What is the mysterious “Misericordina” medicine which Francis prescribed during today’s Angelus in St. Peter’s Square and what is its use?

    Gianni Valente
    vatican city

On the outside it looks just like any medicine box, with the contents clearly printed on it: 59 intracordial pellets. Inside there is a Rosary, an image of the merciful Christ with a caption that reads: “Jesus I trust in you”, plus the usual instruction leaflet that comes with medicines. This is what “Misericordina” is, the medicine kit Francis spoke about at today’s Angelus. Thousands of boxes of this “spiritual medicine” were handed out to pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square.

It is a special medicine to realize the fruits of the Year of Faith, which is drawing to a close … it is a spiritual medicine. Do not forget to take it, because it does us good: the heart, the soul, our whole life!” the Pope said.

Today’s initiative was inspired by the Rosary distributed by St. Faustina Kowalska, a Polish nun and mystic who was canonized by John Paul II in 2000. “It is a spiritual medicine called Misericordina . It is kept in a box, which some volunteers will distribute as you leave the square. Take it: it is a Rosary, with which you can pray the 'chaplet of Divine Mercy’, pearl of our soul and spiritual help to spread love, forgiveness and brotherhood everywhere. Do not forget to take it, because it does us good: the heart, the soul, our whole life!” The efficiency of the medicine is guaranteed by Jesus’ words.

The Pope outlined some situations in which the medicine should be taken: “When we want sinners to convert”, when “we feel we need help in taking a difficult decision,” or when we do not feel strong enough to resist temptation, when we are not able to forgive someone or “we want to ask for mercy for a dying person.”

The advice is to find “a quiet place, a room or a church,” “kneel down” before the little picture of the Merciful Jesus – painted according to Sister Faustina’s vision of him – and recite the prayers and set lines of the Rosary using the Rosary beads.

[It isn't clear whether you'd be saying the Divine Mercy Chaplet
or the Rosary, because all specific references are to 'the Divine
Mercy'.  I went to a Rosary Crusade by Fr. Gruner and a Filipina
lady who was right next to me said the Fatima Decade prayer with
"...most in need of the Divine Mercy."]

The pious practice takes about 7 minutes and if one is praying for “protection”, they should pray the Rosary at least once a day. The process applies to children and adults alike. The illustrative leaflet explains that there are no “side-effects”, that this practice is “compatible with other prayers and that approaching the sacraments “improves the efficiency of the medicine.”

Naturally, the idea of presenting Sister Faustina’s practice as a medicine comes from Poland. The “product” distributed today was produced and distributed by Widawnictwo sw Stanislawa, a publishing house based in Krakow. According to Pope Francis, the publicity received by this curious kit is a way to impress in people’s minds the importance of the medicine of mercy which the Pope has been referring to in all his speeches and homilies.

“For me, and I say this humbly, the strongest message of the Lord is mercy," Francis had said in his homily for the mass celebrated in the parish of St. Anna in the Vatican, on the first Sunday after his election as the Successor of Peter.

On that same day, after the Angelus, he made another publicity spot for mercy: “In these days, I have been able to read a book by a cardinal—Cardinal Kasper, a talented theologian, a good theologian—on mercy. And it did me such good, that book, but don't think that I'm publicizing the books of my cardinals. That is not the case! But it did me such good, so much good... Cardinal Kasper said that hearing the word mercy changes everything. It is the best thing that we can hear: it changes the world. A bit of mercy makes the world less cold and more just. We need to understand God's mercy well, this merciful Father who has such patience...”

In the Opening Speech of Vatican II, John XXIII was the first one to say
that no more would the Church condemn error but would instead use the
    medicine of mercy for sinners.

114 years before that, Pope Pius IX released 50 criminals from prison,
saying that he was giving them God's mercy.  The entire country of Italy
erupted in non-stop revelry consequent to that, which resulted in the
Pope being run out of the Vatican in disguise.  That is what turned him
from a Liberal into a traditional pope.  He then went on to write his
Syllabus of Errors, and to convene Vatican I, which defined papal
    infallibility.

But only 114 years later, John XXIII would start the same problem all
over again, and now, Francis still hasn't learned.  What are we in for????

In the picture above, I have noticed a few things.  It is not a very clear
picture, but it's all the website offers for clarity.  Maybe someone here
knows how to get better resolution from that image.

The Rosary beads appear to be elongated pearls.  While such beads
are readily available and are not too expensive, they do cost about
    $8 to $10 a strand (enough for a Rosary), and I suspect that's too
much money for these cheap boxes from Poland.  Imitation pearl
plastic beads are more likely the material used here.

There are tiny pearl-like beads between the regular beads, and this
    is a very nice touch.

You can see "the little picture of the merciful Jesus" to the left of the box.

The large picture of the heart on the box is an anatomical heart, not the
Sacred Heart of Jesus or the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The centerpiece of the Rosary has what seems to be the same
anatomical heart on it, not Our Lord or Our Lady.

The crucifix attached to the end of the Rosary is the one that JPII used,
with the splayed knees on the corpus, and the sagging crossbeam of
the cross, and the chunky texture all over as if it was partially melted
in a fire out of control or something -- like Purgatory, for example.

Overall, I find it rather self-contradictory that Francis would one day say
that reciting prayers by rote is not really praying, and then practically
the next day recommend the "medicine of mercy" via a string of Rosary
beads.  My only reasonable conclusion is that he has something in mind
OTHER than the prayer of the Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

But what it is that he has in mind is not clear.  As +F would say, "WE
    ARE NOT IN HIS HEAD."

Hey, maybe this is Francis' way of promoting the hermeneutic of
continuity!  How's that for being "continuous?"

  • Thanks, Neil, for the source & image - I'm a computer idiot & lucky just to turn this thing on & off!

My first thought when I saw that it was made of 'pearl' was that Jesus called Faustina "the pearl of my heart".  Very thoughtful & touching of Jorge the Humble to put all this together, no?

JPII passed out rosaries that looked a lot like this.  I have two of them.
His had beads that were pearlescent plastic, and a very good quality.  When
held up to the light you can see little images in the beads, reflections of the
ambient light around you.  The crucifix was the bent-knee thing like this too.

Another web image has what appears to be the package that came
origianally from Poland, with "JEZU UTAM TOBIE" on the bottom of the
    Divine Mercy picture.

I wish you all a good Sunday. Have a good lunch and good-bye.

When a Ouija board is shutting down, it says, "Good-Bye."

It seems the pearl-like beads, the heart centerpiece and the bent-arm
cross, and the chain in lieu of the nylon cord, have been elements of
a modified edition for the Vatican.

That cross is not really a crucifix without the INRI on top.  It has roots
in satanism from the middle ages, due to the downward-bent crossbeam.
There is no POSITIVE reason for any Catholic to use it, let alone a pope.

  • Hadn't thought of the 'Good-Bye" bit!  Can you imagine any other Pope saying such a thing?!  Did he then wave them Good-Bye instead of blessing them?
