  • Doing some research to help my friend answer Fr. Purdy on finding something to disagree with in the docuмent Sacrosanctum Concilium.

    I talked about this HERE

I found a summary of a talk given by Fr. Hesse, and tried to find the corresponding paragraphs he mentions.
Paragraphs 1 thru 4 have been deleted.  As you can see here.
Fr. Hesse references Par 1 & 4 in his conference.

    Does anyone have the original?

  • Paragraphs 1 to 4 constitute the Introduction that precedes Chapter 1.
    They are still there.

  • Paragraph 1

    From Vatican Site:

This sacred Council has several aims in view: it desires to impart an ever increasing vigor to the Christian life of the faithful; to adapt more suitably to the needs of our own times those institutions which are subject to change; to foster whatever can promote union among all who believe in Christ; to strengthen whatever can help to call the whole of mankind into the household of the Church. The Council therefore sees particularly cogent reasons for undertaking the reform and promotion of the liturgy.

    From Fr. Hesse:

“It is the goal of this most sacred Council…to make more responsive the requirements of our times those Church observances which are open to adaptation; to nurture whatever can contribute to the unity of all who believe in Christ”.

“Everyone knows that John himself, the Apostle of love…altogether forbade any discourse with those who profess a mutilated and corrupt version of Christ’s teaching”;  “for the union of Christians can only be promoted by promoting the return to the one, true Church of Christ”.

How come there is a discrepancy?

    Something is amiss.
