The main error of this devotion is that it represents a misplaced, and  "unconditional mercy", (at the expense of God's justice), which perfectly fits with the over-sentimentalized and disorganized society the heresy of Modernism has created and engulfed us all. The sentiment of course, is not born out of true Christian mercy, or charity, but a hideous camouflage for tolerance of all kind of error, immorality, and sin.

Church Reasons to Condemn the Divine Mercy Devotion

In 1958, the Holy Office issued these three statements about this devotion:

1. There is no evidence of the supernatural origin of these revelations
2. No feast of Divine Mercy should be instituted
3. It is forbidden to disseminate writings propagating this devotion under the form received by Sr. Faustina, as well as the image typical of it.

Which is exactly why it's the perfect devotion for the Novus Ordo.

Sacred Heart vs. Divine Mercy

I don't see why they should be opposed. It is from the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus that we recieve Divine Mercy.

Personally, I am devoted to both. One doesn't eliminate the other.

Everyone is free to choose his / her devotions, as long as they lead to Heaven.

The best way to start the month of June, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, is confession and Holy Communion.
