  • The main error of this devotion is that it represents a misplaced, and  "unconditional mercy", (at the expense of God's justice), which perfectly fits with the over-sentimentalized and disorganized society the heresy of Modernism has created and engulfed us all. The sentiment of course, is not born out of true Christian mercy, or charity, but a hideous camouflage for tolerance of all kind of error, immorality, and sin.

Church Reasons to Condemn the Divine Mercy Devotion

In 1958, the Holy Office issued these three statements about this devotion:

    1. There is no evidence of the supernatural origin of these revelations
    2. No feast of Divine Mercy should be instituted
    3. It is forbidden to disseminate writings propagating this devotion under the form received by Sr. Faustina, as well as the image typical of it.
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

Which is exactly why it's the perfect devotion for the Novus Ordo.
"This principle is most certain: The non-Christian cannot in any way be Pope. The reason for this is that he cannot be head of what he is not a member. Now, he who is not a Christian is not a member of the Church, and a manifest heretic is not a Christian, as is clearly taught by St. Cyprian, St. Athanasius, St. Augustine, St. Jerome, and others. Therefore, the manifest heretic cannot be Pope." -- St. Robert Bellarmine

I don't see why they should be opposed. It is from the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus that we recieve Divine Mercy.

  • Personally, I am devoted to both. One doesn't eliminate the other.

Everyone is free to choose his / her devotions, as long as they lead to Heaven.

The best way to start the month of June, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, is confession and Holy Communion.
