I recall that Lucia Dos Santos (Sister Lucia of Fatima) said that the 1984 consecration was fine. Moroever, though I take issue with JPII on may levels, he was extremely devoted to Our Lady, and had a particular devotion to Our Lady of Fatima. In fact, the 1984 consecration was in direct response to Our Lady's call at Fatima, and his attempt to be obedient to that request. Even his name according to Saint malechi seems to reference Fatima - de labore solis - meaning "related to a solar eclipse" in the best read, but given the idiomatic nature of the expression, it could easily reference the Miracle of the Sun.

In any event, for me the case is closed on the consecration. JPII was inspired by Our Lady's call at fatima to consecrate Russia. Perhaps the word "Russia" wasn't used, but the fact is that he didn't do it hap hazardly, he offered that consecration in direct response to Our Lady's call. That consecration was offered on the feast of the Annunciation, and bore its final fruit seven years later on Christmas Day when the Soviet Union dissolved for good, and bloodlessly. That was frankly miraculous. Yes, Russia is a mess today puilling herself out of 70 years of the most opressive regime in history perhaps - entire generations lost to its atheistic line, but all things considered, they are doing exceptionally well!

even the Rome of Pius V was filled with every depravity and vice imaginable, indeed he futilly sought to even make prostitution illegal, but no one dares imagine that Rome in the 16th Century was anything but Catholic. Russia today is no longer the menace to world peace that Our Lady warned us about in 1917. This is a direct result of JPII heeding Her words, and consecrating the country to Her Immaculate Heart. Yes, it has serious problems, but compared to 1990, well, there is no comparison...

To Our Lady, "conversion" means conversion to the true Faith not a changeover from external communism to undercover socialism. Russia is currently home to every sort of vice and moral depravity. In addition the philosophical errors of Russia are still spreading to the point they are at America's doorstep. There has been no period of world peace and the persecution of the Church is increasing to fever pitch.

How can one consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart and never utter the name "Russia"? Also where were the Bishops of the world? JPII did not use the name Russia because he did not want to upset the Russian Orthodox. I'm not sure that deference to schismatics over the instructions of the Blessed Mother were exactly pleasing to her, though I could be wrong.

The inconsistencies in the official story are vast as explained in the e-mail.

Access to Sister Lucia was severely restricted in the 80's by the Secretary of State and I believe it was he who told us Sr. Lucia approved of the consecration. His story and the story of Bertone have holes in it big enough to drive my truck through.

I would ask you to please read the following article with an open mind...

I simply have to disagree. We are not talking about the Rome of Pius V. Of course there has been depravity throughout human history. That is not the point.

Our lady promised a specific conversion of Russia if the Immaculate Heart were consecrated and a period of peace for the world. This means a spiritual conversion of the people of Russia back to Catholicism and true peace. The Russian people are predominately atheistic, agnostic, and pagan and the few religious Christians there are schismatic.

She said as long as her request was not fulfilled there would be another great war (check- WWII) Russia would continue to spread her errors (check- errors still raging, about to consume the US), the Holy Father would have much to suffer (check- worldwide media persecution, calling for his arrest and trial), Holy Father shot and killed (climate is ripe and ripening).

Add this to Ferrara's 30+ reasons in the link I sent you and I think you have a case that would win in court.

When the consecration is performed the promised results will be more than noticeable and, in fact, a miracle. God does not mess around with promises, as you well know. I seriously doubt the miraculous conversion and period of peace meant by Our Lady = technical argument regarding political regime change.

The above could serve as Exhibit A if I ever brought Fatima to trial.  People see whatever they want to see in Fatima.  Now the "Holy Father" who has much to suffer is Benedict XVI?  You have got to be kidding me, Stevusmagnus.

I was building up a certain tolerance for those in SSPX, kind of a "They see the crisis one way, I see it another" attitude, but you have just about killed it off with this post.  Accepting Benedict as Pope is way too reminiscent of sympathy for the devil at this point.  You're worrying about the suffering of Ratzinger?  Do you also sympathize with serial killers?

  • Raoul,

I don't think that is a fair question for stevus. Those in the SSPX are just trying to find the correct path like the rest of us in these extremely confusing times. Their are certain sedes that act like normal people need to have a Phd level of theological understanding to be saved in this era. That is an insane idea as most people cannot reason intellectually above a certain level. The above is not meant to describe stevus in any way as he is a bright guy.

    Still a sede,
    Andy

  • Raoul,

If you believed the current Pope was truly Pope, wouldn't the complete and total ongoing persecution and auto-destruction of the Church as well as personal media crucifixion and calling for you to be tried, your childhood house desecrated, etc. be much to suffer? And there is no doubt more to come unless the consecration takes place in my opinion.

If you are not a Sede then it makes sense to think that the recent Popes are grieved as to the state of the Church (Paul VI- "smoke of Satan" "auto demolition" "JPII- Silent Apostasy" BXVI- "unfavorable period") but they are simply mentally blocked from realizing the true cause because their thinking is imbibed with a foreign philosophy we recognize as modernism but that they genuinely can't see it.

In any case, obviously if you are a Sede this makes no sense, but if you approach the problem from the standpoint of the Society then this seems to be one explanation.
