  • Telesphorous, perhaps you could tell us why we should watch your movie instead?

I've been wanting to see this movie for years, and I think it is something to be very aware of.  I think it was edited or something -there were some really, really nasty Missalettes and it doesn't seem as if he showed the worst of them.

Okay Elizabeth, I will watch the whole thing, and then I'll get back to you.

Keep in mind, I have no doubt the post-Vatican II stuff is very bad indeed.

As for "my movie" - it's very annoying, but it's quite interesting, if you have the patience to listen to the guy.  Take it or leave it.

  • Hi Telesphorous, I guess I am a bit wary of clicking on links.

We have just had a computer disaster this past week!

And annoying in what way?  Give us the low-down; inquiring minds want to know!

It's just a google video link.

It's annoying because the guy isn't a good speaker, and he speaks in Protestant Evangelese.

  • I think what I got most out of this video was that good Catholic art has a certain "feel" to it and is objectively beautiful. Most of the images he showed were ugly to begin with, so I wasn't surprised that the painter might have had bad motives.

I wasn't convinced about the EWTN art. Most of it seemed very nice and the bulk of the imbeds he discussed in these were weak in my opinion.

The OCP stuff, however, didn't surprise me at all. I thought those missal covers were creapy when I attended the N.O. and am not surprised by the newer stuff they've put out.

  • To me, he's credible. On his website he refers to the "post conciliar church" when referring to it, and also, he is a Catholic, so it's not some evangelical slant on things, it's someone trying to be as objective as possible, and consulting Catholic experts as well on the subject. Very interesting.

I was so glad when the digital signal for TV came on, because I don't have that idiot box in my house anymore.

  • I'd have to watch it again to say if this was 100% true or not, but it struck me as odd that the other "experts" discussed everything but the art itself. It seemed as though they were interviewed to discuss various related topics, but I don't think any of them gave a second nod to anything specific in the artwork.

Certainly there are tons of problems in the church and imbeds in artwork are probably in many places. But, I didn't find this video to be totally convincing. He should have had the other experts back him up on some specific instances and I don't think he did that at all.

  • This was a very interesting movie (finally finished it last night).  I wonder if Calace would convert if he was presented with the truth of sede vacante...

My guess is he would, and he'd slap himself in the forehead and say "No wonder!!!"

  • Okay so I just found this very blasphemous crucifix on a website of a homeschooling website. Saint Thomas Aquinas Academy. Here is what I wrote to them:

I thought, in charity, I would bring your attention to that crucifix you have on the front of your website.

Here is a video about this crucifix, and how blasphemous it is. There were quite a few made by "anonymous" painters with this graphic image on it, and I think you should replace it with something not blasphemous.

Start watching here at about 1:57:

The Bigallo Crucifix and the San Damiano Crucifix are the two most popular ones.

The entire docuмentary can be viewed here.

    God Bless you,

    ________

Here is the website where I found it right on the front page:

If you've watched Rape of the Soul, it's very clear that this crucifix is one of the appallingly blasphemous ones.

  • I have a copy of one of those crucifixes. In what manner should I dispose of it?

  • There is a painting in my grandmothers room entitled, "
The Light of the World by William Holman Hunt". Now, I have looked at the image on the internet and find that some copies are more elaborate than others. Still, on the right of the picture the limbs of the tree trunk form the letter "A", with one branch falling across to complete the "A". Also on the door of the one in my grandmother's room the letter "A" appears on the door, and where Jesus is knocking it is the shadown of Satan, complete with horns. On the lower level of the door is six bullet type holes that have rusty looking blood dripping down. Also, the fold of the white gown at about top of thugh level is all of the sudden bright white, almost illuminated. The rest of the gown being dark as if in shadows. Then where the end of the gown is, where this fold ends is a spray of white flowers. Plus, looking up at the eyes, they are round, and black. No depth to them. Just retilian. I never noticed any of this before. I always thought it was a different picture anyhow as the person never looks like Christ, but rather like Dicken's Ghost of Christmas past.
