Title: priests who give BAD "advice" or "counsel"
Post by: graceseeker on September 09, 2017, 11:35:05 AM
I  am so tired of priests who argue with you when  they must know you are right. I have had them argue with SCRIPTURE, and I am not speaking of ambiguous scripture but those psgs a child can understand.

one time I quoted Mk 13:13 verbatim and the priest argued with me.

another time I quoted 2 Cor 6:14 where it says not to be involved (closely) with unbelievers and he argued that also. That passage in the Douay Rheims is VERY clear. There is no chance of it being misinterpreted. The priest gave the usual PROTESTANT interpretation, saying it applied to married people only!

Please!

get outa here already

I would like to hear  other examples of this kind of thing.

(I know there are plenty out there--  b/c the Church is in great disarray... and distress. It is the End times, i am sure)

And how would a laundry list of bad advice be helpful?

graceseeker is interested in muck-raking. It makes her feel better. Besides she's read every word of the Bible so she must know more than a priest.

The priest is responsible to God for the advice he gives. Rather than criticizing them I recommend that we pray for them that the advice we receive from them come from the Holy Spirit.

sounds like lib-speak to me
who says we are not praying for them?
that seems 2b rather beside the point

It is not liberal speak it is Catholic speak. The priest is responsible before God for whatever advice that he gives and for whatever ambiguity that he says or does that effects how other people act.

I was once in the Protestant minefield searching for the church of my youth (my family fled the novus ordo mayhem at it's inception). I tested the 'pastors' against scripture and all but one failed, he was Lutheran and would have made an excellent priest, but I digress.
In my attempts back into 'the' church, I have met many 'priests'. They all have failed, but two. Those two are overworked. May God bless them. I do personally know a very Holy Eastern Orthodox priest-monk. But his 'advice and counsel' is not always good, lol. The ultimatum to deny the chair of Peter to be Orthodox kept me back.
I just think his chair has a usurper. I guess bad counsel ultimately comes from this, it trickles down like sludge.

Pfeiffer comes first to mind. Wouldn't spend 2m when I told him I was considering Sedevacant. "It's a trap. Hrmph. Gotta go."

Bitzer didn't even do that, just looked at me like I had an uncircuŠ¼cized forehead, which was preferable to the "Hrumph! Time for pie!"

Granted, these are more omissive than the reverse, but it ends the same.

To be fair, in a way they were both perfect in that their silence was yet another straw on a broke-back camel.

There's no such thing as a holy Eastern Orthodox.  They're in schism from the Church and cannot, by definition, be holy.

He knows my Savior, even though he doesn't recognize His church, but frankly, neither do I (talking about the post V2 mess).
