The Republican party was and is the WASP (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant). No Catholic would ever be a Republican. Catholics were democrats. JFK was a democrat. After Vatican II the democratic party was infiltrated by radicals. So it is true that Catholics cannot be democrats. But they certainly cannot be Republicans either. The Republican party remains anti-Catholic.
A truly ignorant comment. There is hardly even a single clause without an error.
Let me address the second most obvious absurdity,
* that Catholics were Democrats. As it happens, I was fifteen in 1960, and every Catholic save one known to me—including the Irish Christian Brothers who taught me in high school—voted for Nixon.
There has never been a political party in the United States that was overtly pro-Catholic. The only yardstick with any historical relevance is welcomeness to Catholic participation. From the time of William Jennings Bryan to that of Harry Truman, the Democratic Party was, overall, more welcoming to Catholics, but it was also more welcoming to anarchists, communists, socialists, Jєωs, millionaires, labor organizers, feminists, and immigrationists. In other words, then as now, the Democrats were the party of dissent, disorder, subversion of the moral and natural order, and grievance. The party exploited its Catholic membership under the guise of advancing its interests. The last Democratic president with a sustainable moral claim on our admiration was Grover Cleveland.
