It’s interesting he received last rites from a Maronite priest. In 2009, my uncle and Godfather also received last rites from a Maronite priest when the n.o. parish he’d gone to for some 15 years refused to send a priest to his home. My aunt called around to a few parishes and was given such answers as, “We don’t do that anymore,” “Bring him to our healing Mass,” or, “If he’s been to Confession in the last year, it’s not necessary.” In desperation, my aunt called a Lebanese woman from her sewing circle and asked if her priest could come. He obliged within a few hours. My uncle died the next day having had last rites, wearing his Brown Scapular, and with most of his family around him.
