  • Gooch---- Although I kind of doubt it, I am open to the possibility that Gregory XVII is an anti-pope as well.

From what i can tell it looks like he may very well have been re-elected in 1963.

That being the case, until a future Council( with the Placet of a true Pope ) settles the matter, i recognise him as Pope until 1989.

I consider the case stronger yet as he was the known favorite of Pius XII.  :detective: :reporter:

  • I also believe that Cardinal Siri was Pope-Elect until his death 1989 and that the elections that took place until then were canonically invalid (along the lines of the St. Francis of Assisi prophecy).  And the elections after that time were held by cardinals not canonically appointed.

  • roscoe,

Why would he have been an "anti-" pope?

  • Unless I am mistaken, Pius X declared one prev occupant an anti-pope because he resigned the Holy Sede illegally.

I doubt this re: Pope Siri but it is up to a future Council to figure out.
