  • Some of the Orthodox might be too Catholic for Francis.

If they do reunite with Schismatics, it will be a false unification; they will not be obliged to come under Rome in any way, I assure you.

  • Yes, the Orthodox might be considered "Pelagians" due to their attachment to liturgical tradition.

  • The Bishop of Rome is working very hard to abdicate his authority.  As soon as his re-organization of the Roman Curia and the cardinals is complete, I don't see what the obstacles to re-unification would be.

Maybe Frank could officially change the name of his church to the "Roman Orthodox Church" as a show of good faith and unity.

  • Notice he calls it the Church of Rome, not of Christ.

  • If they do unite, then that means that the orthodox are no longer schismatics...perhaps we can then go to their masses?

What does this mean for those who consider the Novus Ordo schismatic?

  • Pope Francis, like his predecessors, is always looking for a new thing.  He just wants to take the church in a new (new, new, new) direction.

I think the Orthodox are just laughing at him behind his back but they are smiling at him if his extended hand has an envelope with a large wad of cash stored inside it.

  • And notice how he refers to the schismatic as the successor to St. Andrew "the First Called" ... almost as if he's yielding a kind of primacy.

The Catholic Church recognizes the legitimacy of the liturgical tradition of the Orthodox.

There is a Catholic version of the Byzantine rite. You can always go to their masses.

I would smile at you too if you would extend your hand to me and it had an envelope with a large wad of cash inside.

He hasn't yielded anything. The Patriarch of Constantinople is the sucessor of St Andrew. He is being polite. This is how we gain converts.

The Patriarch of Constantinople was the successor to St Andrew. The office was abolished in 1964. The last Patriarch was Antonio Anastasio Rossi, he died in 1948.
