Some new info today, which starts at about 1:20 minutes into the video. A neighbor saw a suspicious person around the church in the days leading up to the attack.

    Thank you, Meg
I hadn't heard of that before.

Could we perhaps keep this thread focused on a dead priest and a very heroic priest and debate the merits of the FSSP somewhere else?

    Thank you, Sigismund.

Good article. It's does a pretty good job of describing some aspects of the TLM, and there's background info for Fr. Terra, which I hadn't seen before. He was actually raised in California.

It would seem that Fr. Terra has a head injury, which may take awhile to recover from. He may not be able to provide much info about the scenario that happened during the attack.

I think it's likely that they were targeted because they're Catholic priests. Maybe the perpetrator lives in the area, so the priests were more accessible. There's still so many unanswered questions, with little to go on as to what took place.

According to this neighbor's witness there was a man who would wander around the church checking for unlocked doors.

Here's the order of events: The assailant entered through a backdoor, beat up Fr. Terra first, then shot Fr. Walker, and finally escaped with the stolen car.

According to this neighbor's witness, Fr. Terra would crack the door to people, and there was a man who would wander around the church checking for unlocked doors. Either Fr. Terra cracked the door to him on the night of assault, and the assailant knocked him to the ground right then, or he entered through an unlocked door. Either way, the man entered, beat up Fr. Terra first, then shot Fr. Walker, and finally escaped with the stolen car.

Yeah, it could have have happened as you describe, but Fr. Terra said (if I recall correctly) on the 911 recording that he didn't know how the assailant got in. Of course, with a head injury, he may not have remembered how the assailant got in.

It is odd that Bp. Olmstead would say that the police haven't said that priests were targeted because they're priests, but it's still to early to state anything conclusively, so of course the police aren't going to say for sure that this is the case. Surely, though, Bp. Olmstead is aware that the police (I think it was Sgt. Martos) said that it COULD be someone who had something against religion.  I would think that the police there would have let the Bishop know that this could be the case.

Actually, I edited the post since then. The front door was locked, as Fr. Terra told the 911 operator it was, and he probably didn't crack a back door to him. So, it sounds like the robber sneaked in through a (possibly unlocked) back door.

They've made an arrest. No details yet.

Sgt. Steve Martos confirmed the arrest Monday morning, but did not provide any information. In a tweet, he said, police planned to provide details later in the date.

Phoenix police confirmed the arrest of a suspect in the murder of Father Kenneth Walker, a Phoenix police spokesman said Monday morning via social media.

A Phoenix police spokesman confirmed that investigators arrested a 54-year-old man with a history of aggravated assault and misconduct involving weapons on suspicion of killing the 28-year-old priest found dead in a rectory near downtown Phoenix last week.
    ....

Moran was released from prison in April after having served the majority of a 10-year sentence for burglary and aggravated assault, according to court records.

I hope they arrested the right person. The photo of the man arrested looks older than someone in their 40's. Something about DNA evidence was mentioned, so maybe they waiting for the test results to match up with the person arrested.

That's because he's a meth addict and boy he looks it.  Also very typical of meth addition-driven crime -  this man does not even remember his actions.

So much for the crew that thinks drugs are a "victimless crime."
