Everyone thinks EENS is so abstract until a jaw dropping study like this comes out.
Regard all of my posts as unfounded slander, heresy, theologically specious etc
I accept Church teaching on Implicit Baptism of Desire.
Francis is Pope.
NO is a good Mass.
Not an ironic sig.

• The results are very unfortunate
It is the result of the slippery slope that started in the late 1800's when the liberals purposely began foisting the ivory tower theological speculations directly upon the faithful. The writer above who now claims "the results are very unfortunate", has been the current primary promoter of salvation outside of the Church here on CI. No different than the liberals that started the whole process.

• This writer is a Catholic Champion of the EENS Dogma "in the same sense and same understanding as the Church has always held........

• Last Trad, XS is among those "catholics" in the OP.
"But Peter and the apostles answering, said: We ought to obey God, rather than men." - Acts 5:29

The Highest Principle in the Church: "We are first of all under obedience to God, and only then under obedience to man" - Fr. Hesse

• No surprises here.  Whatever their other errors might be, the evangelicals get some things right, and this is one of them.  Evangelicals also don't have it, as a part of their history here in the US, having to "fit in" and "prove themselves" the way Catholics historically did.  They just "are what they are", take it or leave it.  When you take a Chamber-of-Commerce, Dale-Carnegie-like approach, as Catholics perceived themselves as having to do, being tolerant of everything and everyone, hail-fellow-well-met, this is how it ends up.

It's very telling that in this pontificate, some of the things Francis has said, could (and should) be challenged even by many evangelical and fundamentalist conservative Protestants.  Things such as saying the Ten Commandments are not absolutes, permitting a pagan fertility goddess idol to be honored, and telling Biden (assuming he did) that he may receive communion --- what they would call "the Lord's Supper" --- would probably be challenged by ministers such as Franklin Graham, Rick Warren, or T.D. Jakes, as well they should be.

I actually hope that Francis does come to the United States one of these days, and lets the evangelicals take him to task in the public forum.  This is one time I'd be firmly in the corner of Bob Jones University.

• Baptism of Desire isn't heretical. But neither is it a dogma. Many of XavierSems quotes are from the 19th century and onwards when this issue first started.

I will provide a few quotes of my own.

Pope Pelagius II (A.D. 578 – 590): “Consider the fact that whoever has not been in the peace and unity of the Church cannot have the Lord. …Although given over to flames and fires, they burn, or, thrown to wild beasts, they lay down their lives, there will not be (for them) that crown of faith but the punishment of faithlessness. …Such a one can be slain, he cannot be crowned. …[If] slain outside the Church, he cannot attain the rewards of the Church.” (Denzinger 246-247)

• Why not just quote Scripture? It's clear enough....One Lord, one faith, one baptism.

But the dogma invention of a BOD lets people enter the kingdom of heaven without water or the Holy Ghost don't cha know.
