A “security issue” prompted the notoriously pro-choice Catholic Speaker of the House Nancy Peℓσѕι (D-CA) to flee a Catholic mass in Rome on Saturday, according to an announcement made from the altar by a priest during the service. Epoch Times reporter Bree A. Dail posted a video clip of the announcement, adding that hecklers at the mass reportedly caused Peℓσѕι to leave. The priest noted there was a “commotion”, saying Peℓσѕι was scheduled to do a reading for the mass but had to leave.

“ROME—@SpeakerPeℓσѕι reportedly heckled at St Patrick’s Catholic American Parish, in Rome, causing her to abruptly leave the Mass she was attending. Paulist Fr. Steven Petroff, rector of St. Patrick’s, addresses the alleged “security incident”, causing the Speaker to leave.”

“You probably heard or saw the commotion. Unfortunately, uh, there was, I guess a security issue, and sadly Speaker Peℓσѕι and her husband had to leave. She was going to do our second reading today. But, um, of course her safety is the most important. Uh, but I think she would have, I hope she would have liked this homily. Cuz, as I said, I was reading some of what she said yesterday. She’s here as part of the uh, preparation for the uh, gathering in Glasgow about climate change. She reiterated what some of the Italian politicians have said about the importance of listening, especially listening to young people…”

The security incident came after Peℓσѕι met earlier in the day with Pope Francis.

“It was a spiritual, personal and official honor to have an audience with His Holiness Pope Francis this morning.”

Peℓσѕι’s statement (https://www.speaker.gov/newsroom/10921) on meeting Pope Francis:
Quote
“It was a spiritual, personal and official honor to have an audience with His Holiness Pope Francis this morning. His Holiness’s leadership is a source of joy and hope for Catholics and for all people, challenging each of us to be good stewards of God’s creation, to act on climate, to embrace the refugee, the immigrant and the poor, and to recognize the dignity and divinity in everyone.
“His Holiness’s encyclical Laudato Si’ is a powerful challenge to the global community to act decisively on the climate crisis with special attention to the most vulnerable communities. I expressed the gratitude of those working on climate action in the Congress for the immense moral clarity and urgency that His Holiness continues to bring to the climate crisis, and how we continue to cherish his address to the Joint Session of Congress in 2015.
“His Holiness commands our attention to honor the Gospel of Matthew by serving ‘the least of these,’ lifting up those who have been left out or left behind, especially in the time of COVID.
“In San Francisco, we take special pride in Pope Francis, who shares the namesake of our city and whose song of St. Francis is our anthem. ‘Lord, make me a channel of thy peace. Where there is darkness, may we bring light. Where there is hatred, may we bring love. Where there is despair, may we bring hope.’”
Peℓσѕι was in Rome to meet the Pope in a prelude to a U.N. meeting on “climate change” in Glasgow, Scotland next month.
Excerpt via Catholic News Service (https://www.catholicnews.com/pope-meets-Peℓσѕι-both-speak-at-legislators-pre-cop26-meeting/):

Quote
Pope Francis met privately at the Vatican Oct. 9 with U.S. House Speaker Nancy Peℓσѕι, who was in Rome to speak at a meeting of legislators from around the world in preparation for the U.N. climate summit.
The Vatican released photos of Peℓσѕι’s meeting with the pope, but provided no details of the encounter, which took place before Pope Francis addressed the Pre-COP26 Parliamentary Meeting.
…Because Peℓσѕι supports legalized abortion, her archbishop, Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone of San Francisco, asked “all Catholics and others of goodwill” to join a prayer and fasting campaign for Peℓσѕι’s “conversion.”
“A conversion of heart of the majority of our congressional representatives is needed on this issue, beginning with the leader of the House, Speaker Nancy Peℓσѕι,” Archbishop Cordileone said in a statement Sept. 29.
In her keynote address to fellow legislators from around the world meeting in Rome Oct. 8, Peℓσѕι said world governments must take bold action in their own countries and when they meet for COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland, in November.
“It would be a dereliction of duty for us not to go into the future in a green way and (one) that responds to the urgency of the climate crisis. It’s all about the children,” she said. “We will leave them a world where they can be healthy, where they can thrive and reach their fulfillment.”
In his speech to the parliamentarians Oct. 9, Pope Francis spoke of the “important, and indeed, crucial” role of governments in slowing climate change and restoring a healthy environment…

It's nice to hear some people are taking a stand.

Yes! This is what the laity need to do if their pastors aint gonna say anything or are gonna encourage this sorta crap(like this priest who was gonna let her "do the second reading"). And you know she was gonna go up and receive Communion too. These people prevented another sacrilege from taking place(weather the novus ordo has a "valid" consecration or she'd be getting bread, it would have been a sacrilege either way I believe, plus a major scandal). CHASE HER OUT!

Does anyone know if the "hacklers" were actually Catholics? I would assume so especially since this took place outside of the U.S.

Yes, but on the other hand it's the pot calling the kettle black as she was scheduled to do a reading during the Mass.

CHASE HER OUT!

Next time they need to chase Bergoglio out ... along with his "hierarchy" and clergy.  Chase them ALL out.

I second this.  Bravo for the hecklers!

I guess I'm just being a rube, but I didn't know there even was an "American" parish in Rome.  If there were only the TLM and nothing else, this wouldn't be seen as nearly as necessary, though I can see the need for confessors in one's own language.  (I have tried to confess in Polish before, it wasn't pretty  )

Considering that it was in Rome, they probably were, but I wouldn't have a problem in the world, with non-Catholics calling out Peℓσѕι on abortion.  Many fundamentalist Christians have a better grasp on many aspects of morality than so-called modern "Catholics" do.  Granted, they have a blind spot on contraception and (some cases of) divorce and "remarriage", but aside from that, their morality is refreshingly traditional.  They don't tolerate the nonsense that Newchurchers do.

It would have been exciting international news if Catholics would have mobbed the Argentine Marrano-ess.

I doubt her security team would have been able to stop it.

It's so unexpectedly based. A Paulist priest offered the Novus Ordo. John Kerry go to a Paulist center, for example. She was to be read one of the readings, so the usual mockery of Christ was to be expected. Perhaps it was because these were American tourists not the usual self selecting crew at a Paulist center. Francis probably sent a private message to apologise and console her.

It's interesting to see how they look at each other in this picture, and how that other guy with a prominent nose is also smiling ... like they're all "on the same page".

More scandal from Bergoglio giving the impression that it's OK Catholics to be pro-abortion.  That man is about as much a "Holy Father" as that raccoon that climbs up my back porch every night.

His friendliness to Emma Bonino of 20,000 illegal abortions with a bicycle and to assorted atheists and mockers like Nancy 'fancy icecream' Peℓσѕι, and his hostility to any politician who is remotely even pro family (like Viktor Orbán who a Calvinist is more Catholic than Francis) says it all. Scalfari has him doubting the divinity of Christ. I believe that favourite editor of Francis. I don't Francis is a heretic really (even with his variously heretical and blasphemous statements), he's simply an unbeliever.

Modernist conciliar popes have been giving scandal for quite some time now, as have CINO's like Peℓσѕι. It's good that Peℓσѕι was heckled. It should happen far more often.

To my disappointment, apparently this priest claims that the "security threat" wasn't from hecklers. According to him there was some sort of anti-vaccine/green pass protest that was spilling into the St. Patricks area. I can't remember or find where I read this originally but I googled it and found it on the national catholic reporter, big surprise huh?

Here's the article;

ROME — U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Peℓσѕι was not heckled while attending Mass in Rome on Oct. 9, despite a now viral social media report falsely claiming she was forced to leave after being jeered.

According to a spokesperson for Peℓσѕι, Italian government officials made the decision to remove the speaker and her husband from the premises of St. Patrick's Church in Rome's historical center after a nearby anti-vaccination protest turned violent.

Peℓσѕι has been in Rome since Oct. 7 and had met with Pope Francis in a private meeting earlier in the day.

Fr. Steve Petroff, pastor of St. Patrick's, also confirmed that Peℓσѕι's departure was due to nearby violence and told Washington Post reporter Chico Harlan that "there was no heckling."

In a video of the 6 p.m. vigil Mass on Saturday posted on the parish's Facebook account, Petroff told Mass attendees that Peℓσѕι had originally been scheduled to do the second reading during the Mass.

He said it was unfortunate that she had to leave but that "her safety is the most important."

"Speaker Peℓσѕι was a welcomed guest at St. Patrick’s," wrote Petroff in a follow-up email to NCR, "and we hope to see her again the next time she is in Rome."

And, of course, when a "spokesperson for Peℓσѕι" talks, what they're saying is the absolute and full truth, to be taken at face value.  How could it be otherwise?

I realize that Italians often have strong, prominent facial features, but as we would have said where I grew up, that picture has the menace just running out of it.  (We would have pronounced the word "meanness".)  I have, over the years, developed a very finely tuned radar for when people are not on the side of the angels, and I can even see it in pictures of those people.  Nothing mystical, just common sense and understanding.
