Paul VI’s “miracle” receives medical approval

Paul VI comes one step closer to beatification as the Medical Commission of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints declares that the former Italian Pope’s healing of an unborn child is unexplainable

    ANDREA TORNIELLI
    vatican city

The Medical Commission of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints chaired by Dr. Patrizio Polisca, Benedict XVI and Francis’ personal doctor, has called a healing attributed to Giovanni Battista Montini, Pope Paul VI, “unexplainable”. The alleged miracle will now have to be examined by theologians and cardinals before it receives the Pope’s approval. But the toughest part is over and it is expected that Montini’s beatification will take place in the next few months.

From the list of reported cases of healing which the postulator of Paul VI’s cause, Antonio Marrazzo, received, he chose one case which early clinical tests showed as “unexplainable”. Marrazzo chose this healing case some time ago. A year ago, on 20 December 2012, Benedict XVI approved the heroic virtues of Paul VI, concluding the canonical process. Only one miracle is required for beatification.

The alleged miracle Marrazzo chose to present to the commission, was the healing of an unborn child witnessed in California in the early 90s. During a woman’s pregnancy, doctors found a serious problem in the foetus which normally results in brain damage and advised the mother to abort. The woman refused and decided to go ahead with the pregnancy, trusting in the intercession of Paul V, the Pope who wrote the “Humanae Vitae” encyclical in 1968.

The child was born without any defects but only when the child reached puberty could doctors be certain of whether the child had made a full recovery without any problem. A year ago Fr. Marrazzo told Vatican Radio that “a truly extraordinary and supernatural event had occurred thanks to the intercession of Paul VI.” This healing was perfectly in line with the magisterium of Paul VI, who wrote the “Humanae Vitae” in defence of human life, but also in defence of the family because the docuмent talks about conjugal love, not just about unborn life. This healing fits in with Montini’s way of thinking.”

The debate over the late Pope’s cause has intensified over the past year, with doctors exchanging medical opinions until yesterday’s final verdict. Speaking at a conference on Paul VI’s visit to the Holy Land last November, the Archbishop of Milan, Cardinal Angelo Scola, said the former Pope’s beatification “should be relatively imminent.”

  • With all the latest technology, how many of us have friends who were advised to have an abortion because the unborn was diagnosed with Down Syndrome...and are born perfectly healthy? But in the 90's? They must be desperate!

  • I can't believe that anyone would pray for the intercession of Paul VI, one of the most evil men in history, the greatest destroyer in the Church's history. :smoke-pot:

  • I wonder what "miracles" they have planned for Bergoglio's inevitable "canonization."
"This principle is most certain: The non-Christian cannot in any way be Pope. The reason for this is that he cannot be head of what he is not a member. Now, he who is not a Christian is not a member of the Church, and a manifest heretic is not a Christian, as is clearly taught by St. Cyprian, St. Athanasius, St. Augustine, St. Jerome, and others. Therefore, the manifest heretic cannot be Pope." -- St. Robert Bellarmine

  • You'll notice that this supposed "miracle" was already known about when this was published. I wonder why his "canonization" stopped so suddenly if this "miracle" was authentic?

Also, someone in that "office" needs to be fired.

But let your speech be yea, yea: no, no: and that which is over and above these, is of evil.

This is truly outrageous.  I was one such mother told that I would be saddled with a handicapped child for the rest of my life--but I don't think it is rash to assume there are thousands of us lied to by bad doctors.

Actually, it is sort of a relief that they are using something so spurious to hustle this deal along.  Relief is not the right word.  Christ have mercy on us.

Hadn't B16 already decided to resign by then?

Even though it is very likely that the contemporary clerics are dyed in the wool atheists, they know they have to put on a show for their followers (who really should know better).

Having said this, the conciliar crowd just has to declare an event a miracle.  The mainstream media won't care since they think religion is for idiots and Pope Francis is their man leading the fools.

On a personal side, my wife was told repeatedly that her baby was " abnormal" and a possible Down's syndrome baby.  Now, since I know how people in the medical world think, I reassured my wife that we had nothing to worry about and that the medical people are just trying to talk her into having an abortion.  That was eight years ago.  My daughter is only abnormal in the fact that she is slightly larger than the rest of her siblings at that age.  I can almost guarantee that tens of thousands of babies are born after a ghoul said the tests say that an abnormality is to be expected.  Sadly, tens of thousands of babies are aborted due to this ghoulish advice.

Not many knew he was going to resign (supposedly). But that very date, 12/20/13 was the day he said in a speech that "This is the end of the old Church and the beginning of the new", according to the Vatican Insider. He was working on the "saints" of the new church.

Thank you SO much for checking that out!   There is so much of this dark chapter we don't know, IMO.

Can you provide a better reference for this quote?  The Vatican website shows that Ratzinger gave one speech on that date (actually, given in 2012) but he did not say this in that speech, or even anything that sounds like this.
