  • For all the concerns about this issue of denzinger, I think the good far outweighs the bad.  The book is a home run compared to what else is out there.  It is a pound for pound book in a world where catholics are no longer fluent in latin.  I mean, is there even a denzinger in english that pre dates this rahner version?  If there isn't, then the complaining should stop.  We work with what we have, and God fills up what is missing.

  • It is sublime that Rahner's letter also condemns his BFF Ratzinger.

  • As an aside, a similar trick is being done with Archbishop Lefebvre:

Quote only the old, pre-1987 accord Archbishop (so as portray him as the eternal diplomat), and omit (or even deny!) he rejected the deal the next day, and forevermore required the conversion of Rome before considering any practical accord.
Yes, the Swiss are famous for their Marionette theaters.

So too, can the Menzingen brotherhood, make the Archbishop say... whatever is politically expedient for them.
