I really want your opinion on this please.
Did God create heaven and earth in seven days, and is the earth around 6,000-7,000 years old? Or--
Really, the earth is probably 6,000,000(,000?) years old, and God created us after "experimenting" on things for (b?)millions of years?
Before you answer, this "(b?)millions of years" thing didn't start until the last couple centuries.
If you believe that the bible is accurate and the inerrant word of God, then good for you.
If you believe in what is called "evolution," or say that it's even possible that God did it that way, I have some questions for you. I'll ask them as people answer.
My goal in this? To make sure no one is in error.
My former "best friend" is an indultarian. HER "best friend" is one as well (and incidentally, she believes that the NO is just as good as the TLM). My former "best friend" defended HER "best friend" when she asked for ME to display proof that the earth was NOT (b?)millions of years old. To which I was unjustly castigated and reproached, and told I was "rude and obnoxious" in public, for asking HER to display proof, since my proof was in Genesis. Also, she said I was "wrong about everything" among other hurtful, and eye-opening things that I never believed could be said in our 19 year relation(friend?)ship.
The way I see this, is that the enemies of the Church (Communists, Satanists, et al ) were the ones that put forward phony evidence that evolution is possible, or even probable, and that the earth, in fact, is just as old as Genesis says it is. The only reason there is even a question is to attempt to attack the Catholic (read: Christian) Church.
I would like to hear any evidence that you might believe you have if you are a proponent of "Catholic evolution."
Go.

I'm going to stick my oar in this and first say that I am sorry hurtful things were said. Funny you should bring this up, though, cause my daughter and I were just talking about it and in the Four Marks I just got today there is a big write up on it.
I believe the Bible is accurate and we are about 6,000 yrs old. I think the Vatican has gone to hell intellectually.
-
So do I.

I want to thank whoever (Dulcamara perhaps?) for posting the Kent Hovind video of the 100 reasons why evolution is stupid video. I've never believed in evolution, and I've never believed the argument that it could ever be "compatible" with the Catholic religion, but this cemented my thoughts.
All of his protestant fundamentalism about "being saved" aside, he has marvelous information, that I believe any discerning Catholic could benefit from.

I am absolutely certain, with the certainty of faith, that human beings have been around for only about 6,000 years. In addition to Sacred Scripture, which alone would be enough for me, there's plenty of evidence to prove this.
I must admit, however, that I am a bit perplexed by what Sacred Scripture means by a "day" before the sun and the moon were actually created.
-
If it's any consolation, they are debunking evolution daily. It's quite funny when you think about it. The Vatican is jumping on the evolution bandwagon just as they are proving it is a farce.
Hang in there---your friend may yet apologize.

That's a good point. :laugh1:
I figure when He made the light, He already had defined it as "the light day, and the darkness night." So it would make sense that He had already determined time from that moment, because later on (on the third day, actually) He made the "two great lights."

more like 12-15,000 yrs at most, Ussher was wrong on his 4004BC timing of creation.does not figure in many events/people and also, does not allow enough time for replenishing hte earth post-Flood, etc.....suffice to day, though, no apes-humans and no billions of yrs to slowly create!

There is none so blind as he who will not see. And there are many other truths in scripture---truths that go right to the heart of things.

Part of Kent Hovind's video talks about these "halos" you're talking about.
Here's the website for the book he cited:

Bumping this in case people missed it. It's refreshing to see that no one here, so far, believes that "evolution" is even possible.
:rahrah:
-
I knew one guy at the SSPX seminary who believed in evolution. Opposed to him, of course, were the large contingent of geo-centrists.
-
More to the point, the scientific community are discarding it. Every day more and more people are losing their faith in the theory of evolution.
-
I used to accept the theory of evolution for a long time and embraced what is called the "theistic evolution" position. But overtime I moved away from that position and now do not accept evolution. I believe in creationism but don't have any clear position on wether the earth is 6, 10 or more thousands years old.
-
Like everyone else here (thankfully) I don't believe in evolution. Also, thanks for the Hovind video link - it is very interesting and while he does make a few gross generalisations and a few errors in reason (not to mention the fundamentalist protestant errors), most of what he says is solidly backed with rational thinking.

Yeah I just hope Gerry Matatics gets to him before he dies or something.

I consider the theory of evolution to be a false religion incompatible with Catholicism and do not understand how a person can try to reconcile these two religions without losing the faith.
I discovered Mr. Hovind's videos a few years ago and liked them. Then I heard he was sent to prison and was sad for him.

I enjoyed the video I saw of Mr Hovind debunking the "BIG BANG". I found it very informative and I am only sorry catholics are not giving testimony to Genesis like these fundamental Protestants do.
Why was he sent to prison?

M. Scheeben: "It is, therefore, a heresy to pretend that man, as to his body, has descended from the ape in consequence of progressive changes come over the forms, even if one should suppose that upon the complete evolution of the form God simultaneously created the soul." Katholische Dogmatik, vol. 2, Freiburg, 1878, p. 144.
