At Pascendi's Forum one of their members said that Benedict XVI defended the EENS dogma in his Palm Sunday homily.  Here is the homily.  Warning:  If you are anything like me, this will make you want to ram your fist into the wall at full speed and with full power.  So put gloves on before reading.

    Quote
"Humbly believing with the Church, like being bound together in a roped party ascending to God, is an essential condition for following Christ. Not acting as the owners of the Word of God, not chasing after a mistaken idea of emancipation -- this is also part of being together in the roped party. The humility of "being-with" is essential to the ascent. Letting the Lord take us by the hand through the sacraments is another part of it. We let ourselves be purified and strengthened by him, we let ourselves accept the discipline of the ascent, even if we are tired.

Finally, we must again say that the cross is part of the ascent toward the height of Jesus Christ, the ascent to the height of God. Just as in the affairs of this world great things cannot be done without renunciation and hard work (joy in great discoveries and joy in a true capacity for activity are linked to discipline, indeed, to the effort of learning) so also the way to life itself, to the realization of one's own humanity is linked to him who climbed to the height of God through the cross. In the final analysis, the cross is the expression of that which is meant by love: Only he who loses himself will find himself.

Let us summarize: Following Christ demands as a first step the reawakening of the nostalgia for being authentically human and thus the reawakening for God. It then demands that one enter into the roped party of those who climb, into the communion of the Church. In the "we" of the Church we enter into the communion with the "Thou" of Jesus Christ and therefore reach the way to God. Moreover, listening to and living Jesus Christ's word in faith, hope and love is also required. We are thus on the way to the definitive Jerusalem and already, from this point forward, we already find ourselves there in the communion of all God's saints.

Our pilgrimage in following Christ, then, is not directed toward any earthly city, but toward the new City of God that grows in the midst of this world ...

    Anti-Pope Benedict XVI
    Homily for Palm Sunday
    March 28, 2010

[1] The Zenit article has the following note: The Pope is using a mountaineering metaphor here. Groups of climbers often rope themselves together when they scale mountainsides. This is the meaning of a "roped party." The Italian word is "cordata".

They actually think he's saying there's no salvation outside the Church because he uses the metaphor of a "roped party," the communion of believers.  Perhaps they missed this part?

I don't know what "not chasing after emancipation" means.  It looks ominously like "not chasing after salvation."  But the underlined part is pretty clear, I think.

Some other things about this speech I'd like to mention.  Isn't the reference to mountain-climbing an homage of sorts to the Alpinist Pius XI, who was extremely favorable to trades-unions and Catholic social action while unfavorable to anything that smacked of reactionary, monarchical Catholicism that was against the Judaizing trend?  Also note the feeble Heideggereanism of the "being-with" in humility with Christ.

  • Anti-Pope Benedict XVI, Homily for the First Monday in Holy Week ( parodic! )
    Quote
"It must never be forgotten that the work of Christ in the world is essential to the justice of our being.  Restoring Christ's humanity, His isness as well as His otherness, is the duty of all believers who genuinely crave peace. Because when we attribute to ourselves the power of defeating the world, we come closer to His suffering.  For this reason, one should never say that Christ was unnecessary."

I don't write these parodies to make fun, but because it's a good way to shed some light on his "style," with its characteristic paragraph structure.

    1) Defend a dogma that no one ever questioned --
    2) Slip in some kind of abstruse statement to throw people off --
    3) Say something heretical or borderline heretical or erroneous --
    4) Tie it all back in with the original straw-man argument, except by this time the original dogma that was being defended has gone through a chemical reaction where it is itself now tainted with heresy

  • It's all nonsense.  Why can't he just speak plainly like a Catholic instead of all of this moderninst mumbo-jumbo?

He is saying "Church" not "Catholic Church."  Who knows what he means by "Church"?  Is this the mega-church that the Catholic Church "subsists" in?

  • Raoul, I know you were looking for an intellectual response.

I'm sorry but I have no more use for the Pascendis of the conciliar church nor for any other novus ordo apologist or excuse maker.  Let them live in the conciliar dream world of their own making - they deserve everything they get.

  • To those at Pascendi's Forum, I call you "delusional" with all good will.  I shouldn't use pejorative terms but none other applies to a breed as strange and self-contradictory as a "Novus Ordo Feeneyite."  You talk about "the dogma" and you are part of a dogma-less anti-Church. The only reason that they still allow the Feeneyites of the St. Benedict Center is because they are playing mind games, don't you see that?

If you're going to criticize someone, you should at least phrase them correctly.  How many times have we heard "we don't need a church, we have Jesus"?  This is a mistaken idea of emancipation.

Here is John Paul's theme: one turns to God when one turns to humanity.  The humanization of man is equivalent to his divinization.  Thus Jesus revealed man to himself and consequently his status as a son of God.  To realize this fact, we must simply realize our humanity.

  • Caminus,

Indeed. In the new theology, becoming "authentically human" is the goal, not salvation. Because we are all saved through our human nature, redeemed by Jesus Christ anyway, though some are not "fully aware' of it.

    Raoul,

Your frustration is understandable. These people are completely delusional if they believe BXVI is in any way a Feeneyite.

I simply cannot imagine believing that all non-water baptized Catholics (including catechumens, martyrs for the faith, and the invincibly ignorant) are burning in the pit of Hell fire while AT THE SAME TIME believing attendance at a fully approved Novus Ordo rock Mass with people who believe in universal salvation is a-ok.

So, another words, outside the NO, there is no salvation? I've had these types tell me Society Masses were frowned upon and Society Masses and confessions are invalid.

They are walking contradictions. I think holding two contrary beliefs at the same time is a precursor to insanity.

Their position is about as logically ridiculous as being a Sedevacantist who believes in universal salvation,.

What a terrible homily. It's like you can't even label it a specific heresy since its so vague; you don't even know what to say. I hope all of us here are "reawakening the nostalgia for being authentically human" during Holy Week. :bob-marley: What?
    Pray for me, always.
